A Word From The PresidentA Word From The PresidentA Word From The PresidentA Word From The President Dear Members,
Another month has past. I can't believe how fast this year has flown by. As you read this you will have three new members for your 2019-20 Board of Directors in, Ricky Brown, Vickie Cox and Tom Styers. These three directors add a wealth of knowledge and experience to our Board and I look forward to working with them in the coming months I'd like to publicly thank them for stepping up to the plate for the good of the Club! Last years bad weather causing us to cancel events etc. created some challenges. But this season Mother Nature was a bit kindler & gentler to us even though she did set us back on the completion for the renovation project. That said, the course looks great, we still have some "clean-up" work to do but Nathan and his crew are on it.
OUR STAFF: What can I say? Mike West, GM, has done a great job managing the
operation along with his office staff. Donna & Barbie continue to manage our office and it runs like a well-oiled machine.
Our golf staff headed up by our professional Todd Hutcherson continues to do a great job. I'm sure that they are all looking forward to some "down time" from the hectic seasonal pace they keep.
Nathan & his staff are doing a great job. Tony Shepherd continues to wear a dozen different hats
but gets it all done. Angela and her staff always greet us with a smile. Tony Peros, our chef, continues to amaze us with his
culinary abilities. Last but not least our 2019 BOD. It has been a pleasure
working with this team of dedicated volunteer members, they all signed on FOR THE GOOD OF THE CLUB!
MISC. NEWS:
Thanks to our generous members James & Joanne Foreman as well as Mike Wood, Landscaping Design, we will be completely redesigning the landscaping directly in front of our Clubhouse. I'm sure it's going to be an outstanding improvement! If you see James, Joanne or

Fall is a beautiful time of the year to be at High Meadows, leaves changing colors, cool mornings and clear blue skies. Our golf course continues to improve every day from the bunker/tee project with the recently sodded areas growing-in. Please thank our outgoing Board Members: Carolyn Harrell, Yon Demmink and Cheff Yarborough for their service, leadership, hard work and time dedication to High Meadows. Thank you also to all of the members of our Club Committees for all of your work and dedication. We would like to welcome our new incoming Board Members for 2020: Vicky Cox, Ricky Brown and Tom Styers.

As fall has arrived and some of our members will be heading south, now is the time to stop by the Golf Shop to clean up any unused credits or to take advantage of our end of season inventory reduction sale! If a special club, apparel or gift for the holiday season is needed, now is the time to order to have it before the end of the year. As always, if we can assist you in any way please let us know in the Golf shop!
Tip of the month! “Playing in Wind”
Wind in your face: Solid contact is critical. Though your instinct will be to swing a little harder, you’ll want to actually do the opposite. Focus more on tempo and balance. Take a practice swing that feels about 80% of your normal tempo. Your backswing should be a bit abbreviated as well as your follow through. When you’re ready to hit, position the ball back in your stance to promote a lower trajectory. Take at least one extra club (depending on the strength of the wind) to account for the shorter swing as well as the headwind. Remember that wind blowing into you enhances the curvature of the ball, so shots that have movement left and right will move even further in those directions. So find the line that can be safe whether straight or accounting for wind that will produce the shot and results you are looking for! Please let the Golf Shop know if we can help with your golf game! Todd Hutcherson
Mike please give them a pat on the back and a big thank-you! We are currently reviewing plans for access to the #8 green. I
realize that I have mentioned installing steps but recently a few members have suggested other approaches to the issue and offered assistance in making that happen. I will keep you updated as we move forward.
We are currently finalizing quotes for the new tennis/pickle ball courts. A big Thank you to our Living Tree Committee for all their work.
Our dining & golf numbers continue to climb with more member participation, please continue to utilize all facets of our terrific Club.
The Cherry Lane VFD Golf tournament was a great success, we thank all involved in making that happen.
Fall Member/Member tournament, Oyster-Fest and the Halloween costume party are all in October, don't miss out on any of these fun events.
There is still three months remaining on the Membership incentive program. Bring your guests to HMGCC, sign them up as new members and receive your incentive reward package.
Enjoy our Club! Regards, Rich Kaplan President

Bio for Mollie Battenhouse MW: It's not a widely known fact that a BFA degree can make for a good entry into the food and beverage industry, but that's how Mollie Battenhouse found her way. A student of painting and sculpture, she supported herself through school by working in restaurants. She graduated cum laude from Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, but the pace and energy of restaurants beckoned, and she made it her mission to assemble a stellar resume. She enrolled in The Culinary Institute of America and graduated at the top of her class. She would go on to work at acclaimed restaurants like Payard Patisserie and Bistro and Pondicherry in New York City. Battenhouse's
move into wine began with a part-time job at Joshua Wesson's Best Cellars wine shop in Manhattan. Battenhouse found her home in wine at the store; what started as a part-time gig turned into an eight-year tenure. She returned to the restaurant world to work as head sommelier at Tribeca Grill, where she was responsible for maintaining a Wine Spectator Grand Award-winning wine list. Following Tribeca Grill, Mollie moved to the distribution side of the business, and became the Director of Sales and Business Development for V.O.S. Selections in New York and New Jersey. The Education side of the business came calling, and Mollie went to work for Jackson Family Wines in 2016, where she is currently the National Director of Wine Education. Mollie is also an Advanced Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers. In her free time, Mollie is a Wine Ring, Wine Expert, she teaches classes at The International Wine Center, gardens, swims, and trains for half-marathons.
