Holistic Ways to Lower Humidity
for South Florida Homes
When you live in a place like Boca Raton or Pompano Beach, you expect heat from our
tropical weather. However, when you get out of the shower, you don’t expect to have to
sweat immediately afterward. Other than having to take multiple showers per day, too
much moisture, in the air can lead to things like mold and mildew, causing a health
hazard. There are some natural things you can do to without the use of a dehumidifier
and we’ve outlined a few of them for you.
First, make sure that you have adequate ventilation. Open the windows on days that
you can like during our winter months when the outside temperatures aren’t as high.
Hardwood, tiles or tile flooring is much better than carpet. If you have carpet in
places like the bathroom, you’re basically inviting mold spores to be your best friend. By
removing carpet, you’ll notice an immediate difference in the quality of your air as well
as less humidity.
Use fans when you don’t have windows. If you do have windows when doing every day
activities like showering and cooking crack the window open. This small task can do
wonders in lowering the humidity that’s become trapped in your home.
Lower your air temperature on your thermostat. Keeping the lower temps will reduce
the hot and humid environment. Heat traps humid conditions.
More people in the room will cause there to be higher moisture from breathing. While
you may not be able to prevent the amount of people there are in a room, keep in mind
this will lend to what’s in your air. When there is a heavily populated area in your home
or office, try running fans.
Taking colder showers will reduce the steam that gets released into your atmosphere.
You can also use less water or have the pressure lowered from the shower head.
Plants are a huge culprit to humid areas. If you’ve got a green thumb use it, by moving
the plants to designated areas like on your lanai.
By using a few of these methods to maintain the quality of your air, you’ll notice that you
won’t sweat nearly as much. You’ll also be preventing anyone in the house from
suffering from breathing illnesses like asthma. Take the time to make your environment
more comfortable and watch how much happier you’ll be.
