The Broadway Fringe Festival is held every summer in the month of August. This festival showcases the best of the local performing arts and also hosts travelling productions. Take in a show or two as you peruse the street with many local artisans selling crafts, food and drink.

The Broadway Street Fair showcases the many local businesses that line the street on and around Broadway. Catch local shops’ deals on this day as well as local artisans selling their homemade wares. This is a fun summer day you surely do not want to miss.

NUTANA SCHOOL
Nutana School sits just o� Broadway on 11th Street and Victoria Avenue. Founded in 1909, the school served as a preparatory school for students expecting to attend university and enter professional careers. During 1910-1912, the school hosted classes here for the University of Saskatchewan during its own construction. Nutana School is home to Saskatoon’s first public art gallery and is adorned with some of the city and countries most talented artists. Be sure to visit the library in the school to see some of the largest art pieces.

BROADWAY THEATRE
The Broadway Theatre opened its doors for the first time on December 5th, 1946 and was Broadway’s entertainment destination during the post-World War II years. The theatre fell into disrepute by the 1970s when it became an adult movie theatre. It was restored as an art film cinema and live performance venue in the 1980s but by 1993 was forced to close its doors. After a public fundraising drive, it was purchased by a non-profit organization and reopened. In addition to art, Canadian and regional cinema, the theatre also hosts live music performances, comedy shows, community events and more.

THE HOSE AND HYDRANT
The Hose and Hydrant was Saskatoon’s first fire hall, built in 1912. At this time in history, the fire department had 30 working men and 13 horses! As Saskatoon grew as a city, the Fire Department went from putting out fires with buckets and horses to motorized fire trucks and ladders. Currently, this historic building is home to the Hose and Hydrant, a brew pub and store.
A HISTORY LESSON
THE MARR RESIDENCEDeemed a National historic site, the Marr Residence is located just o� Victoria Avenue. Built in 1884, this house was part of the original temperance colony that predated the city of Saskatoon, and is the oldest building in Saskatoon that still resides on its original site. The Marr Residence has had many surges of activity throughout the years including a field hospital during WWI and watching the city of Saskatoon flourish with pioneers coming to the prairies. The Marr Residence hosts group tours and has regular open houses.

Cross the street at 5 Corners (local talk for the intersection at Broadway and 12th) and walk South down the East side as there is art showcased on both sides.
