How to Replace a Blend Door Actuator on a Buick

The Blend Door Actuator mixes hot air with cold air by an actuator motor that opens and closes

the blend door to adjust how much hot air and cold air to mix for the temperature setting as you

have chosen. The blend door actuators in a Buick are electrically operated by blend door motors.

A computer assigned to this duty controls the blend door actuators. These are tied into several

sensors that detect the outside temperature to compensate for incoming air, inside air temperature

and even a sensor to signal when a door or window is open to speed up the fan to maintain the

inside temperature.

On most modern vehicles, air is constantly blown through the AC evaporator core and then the

blend door can divert some or all of the air through the heater core. In full AC mode, the blend

door is closed against the heater core inlet and all air flows around the heater core and directly

into the vent system. In heater mode, the compressor is deactivated and the air flowing through

the evaporator core has no temperature change. As before, the blend door will now direct some

or all of the air flow through the heater core and into the vent system.

If Your Blend Door Actuator is not working properly, you may only get cold air coming

through the vents or maybe just hot air with no proper air conditioning in your car.
