HOW TO USE THESE TRAINING RESOURCES
Our training programmes are available currently available as downloads from
our website for printing and use. Discs with files can be provided where
needed.
For most training modules there are three files:
1. Facilitator Guides – no business experience needed but see our
Introduction for Facilitators on website: Click here
2. Slides – for projection or printing on paper to show or pass round group
3. Worksheets – need to be printed, one for each participant and pens or
pencils need to be available, plus desk or board to rest on
Our programmes are being used in a wide variety of venues, so we would like
to try and offer some suggestions on how to present our materials in the type
of venue you will use, which might be:
If you use a different venue please let us know!
Some prices of equipment are given which are UK prices and may be very
different locally!

Effective presentation and facilitation of group training programmes is vitally
important to maintain interest and progress by participants. Presentation
visual aids will help greatly, but must be as suitable as possible for all venues.

These are the main types of
venue and presentation needs

Outdoor Group Training
This is the most difficult venue so good group leadership/facilitation will be
very important to maintain interest and attention of participants
Verbal training with no visual aids – will need especially effective group
leadership see our ‘Facilitators Presentation Skills Guide’ on the Aid for Trade
website:
http://www.aidfortrade.info/training-programmes#category100
If possible put some key words large onto blackboard or large sheet of paper to
show the group. Make sure to invite questions frequently, or break into
smaller groups for discussion and feedback, to help ensure understanding
Visual Teaching Aids will help outdoors
Flip Charts
Even simple pictures or diagrams will help and a folder can be used as a Flip
Chart for small groups
Magnifying picture size from the Aid
for Trade website via a smartphone
could be helpful for small groups?
Probably also need audio booster,
see above
Use Audio?
If a smartphone with internet access is available or can be borrowed you could use our
audio training ‘podcasts’ available on http://www.aidfortrade.info/podcasts.php
However amplification of smart phone audio output and probably a computer will almost
certainly be needed

Projection Options
Any projection equipment will require a stable electricity supply!
The notes below conclude that using a TV is probably the best and lowest
cost approach for groups to about 30 people
Note: All prices given are UK – so may be very different elsewhere
Note: mini projectors can be purchased for as little as £30 - £60 but two have
been tested and found to need a very dark room and have a limited projection
size so are not recommended so far, but there are developments!)
Possibly best new battery operated minprojectors.
(Not tested but still said to work best in part
darkened room)
iCODIS CB-100 Pico Projector UK price:£140
APEMAN Mini Pocket LED DLP Projector UK
price:£170

230 volt mains Projectors
Best option for presentations, especially for larger groups and possibly
showing films for income?
Note: Projectors need separate speakers (£50+) and a screen which can be a
white wall or a hung sheet - a large portable screen is bulky to carry around
and numerous connecting cables are also needed. Computers, DVD players and
memory sticks can be linked to a mains electricity projector (230volts). Here
are some examples:
The AFT Projector is model SB-S03
(2700 Lumens) costing £190 plus carry
case £30 works well in most indoor
locations, except bright sunlight
Needs 230volt power

TV Option
A large, 50 inch TV may already be available or cold be loaned. If new they
costs about the same as a good projector – will be bulky for carrying around if
needed, but TV provides a much brighter image in
daylight than most projectorsz.
Newish TVs can be linked with an HDMI cable to a
laptop computer or wirelessly (Bluetooth) with the
right cable or adapters
A 50inch tv would be OK for groups of up to say 30
but more than that and a larger picture may be
needed - which may be more cost effective via a projector
(It is anticipated that a suitable TV might be already available or might be
borrowed for use at the course location?)
Example (UK)
Digihome 50273SMFHDLED 50" Full HD
Smart LED TV with Freeview WiFi HDMI
USB Port £270

Connect TV to computer either with a VGA cable or an HDMI cable
1. Turn your laptop and TV on.
2. Connect your HDMI or VGA lead to both your TV and laptop (any order).
3. Select the correct HDMI or VGA input on your TV (usually by pressing the
AV button).
VGA HDMI
Note
1. In addition you may need to use an audio cable for Laptop to TV in
addition to VGA
2. TV must of course be fitted with a VGA or HDMI port – which may not be
available on older TV models
3. There are also wireless systems which plug
into the HDMI port on your TV and laptop
(possibly the USB port on your laptop),
