Welcome Back!I hope your winter break went by well and you are ready to learn!
Raise your hand…
What did you do during the break?
New Years Resolution!• What grade did you receive last semester?• What grade do you want to receive this semester?• What are two things you can do differently to
receive a better grade?• What are two things you can do if your grade
begins to drop?• What is one thing you can do on topics that
become challenging to give you a greater chance for success?
Classroom Rules and Procedures• Classroom rules and procedures are important to
create and maintain for allowing yourself and others to learn and grow as a student.
• Every class has them to benefit you in learning and allow others to participate in creating a comfortable learning environment.
Classroom Rules and Procedures• There are consequences when following or not
following the classroom rules and procedures
• The negative consequences escalate as the rules and procedures continue to be broken
• The positive consequences shall be rewarding both intrinsically and extrinsically.
What are the rules?• Be Punctual• by the time the tardy bell rings, students should be seated
and working on the “do now.” Students not seated by this time will be considered late, and the school’s tardy policy will be followed.
• Be Responsible• you should work as hard in class as I work to be prepared
for your class. This means you should have all necessary materials with you, you should do your best to remain focused and on task, and you should take responsibility to complete neat work that you are proud of.
What are the rules?• Be Honest• if everyone knew everything, teachers would be unnecessary.
Teachers expect that students will struggle from time to time. Cheating on tests, plagiarizing, copying another’s homework, or even pretending to understand difficult material does a disservice to everyone in our class. Ask for help when it’s needed… teachers love it! The school has a policy on academic dishonesty that will be strictly followed in the event that cheating is discovered.
• Be Respectful• I promise to show students every respect, and I expect every
respect from my students. More importantly, I want all students to respect themselves and each other enough to be on time, responsible and honest.
What are the rules?• Tardy Policy
• If you know you will be late to class, then make sure you have a pass from the office to return to class.
• Academic Dishonesty/Cheating• Enough said.
• Electronic Devices• The only electronic device allowed to be used in class is a
calculator• For example, no cell phones, no ipod, no ipad, no computers.• If a parent needs to communicate with a student, a call should be
made to the office. Any personal electronic device being used in class will be confiscated and turned in to the office, and students or parents will have to arrange to get it back from Administration. A refusal to turn over these devices when requested will result in a student being referred to administration for disciplinary action.
What are the rules?• Dress Code• Make sure you in proper attire and leave prohibited
accessories at home.
• Leaving the class room without the teachers permission is prohibited
• Keep Food and Drink out of Class
• Use facilities will be limited.• NO pass first and last 30 minutes• NO pass on Wednesdays
What are the procedures?• When you enter the classroom be ready to learn• Look at the board section “DO NOW” to see if book is
required• Have a seat in your assigned seat before the bell rings• Take out your homework due, notebook, and agenda• Write important information on agenda• Teacher will take attendance and agendas will be stamped
while you are working on the “DO NOW”
What are the procedures?• During class• When instructions are being given or teaching is taking
place, you may not stand up, go to the trash can or the pencil sharpener.
• Once class work begins (either independent or group work), you may move around the room as needed to sharpen your pencil or throw away trash without permission.
• Participation is expected. Although I encourage each student to take risks by venturing into relevant class room discussion, the rules of respecting yourself, your teacher, and your fellow classmates apply; raise your hand, be courteous in your responses to others’ opinions, and maintain decorum by eliminating profanity and slang from your conversation.
What are the procedures?• Before you leave the class• You will be directed to begin putting away personal items
and academic materials. Please wait for this direction.
• Please stay in your seats until I excuse you; do not bolt for the door the minute you hear the bell.
What are the procedures?• Testing of any kind will be:• Individually completed (No talking)• Raise your hand if you require teachers attention• Be Test Ready before the test begins
• Lectures• Students should be attentively listening, taking notes, and
frequently asking the teacher questions by first raising your hand.• Remain in your assigned seat at all times.• Actively participate.
What are the procedures?• Independent Work
• Refrain from interrupting others• You may communicate mathematics with students adjacent to you• Raise your hand if you require teachers attention• If you finish earlier than your peers, assist them in every way
possible to quicken the pace of the class
• Group Work• Refrain from interrupting others• You may communicate mathematics with other students by
moving adjacent to the other student you wish to gain attention• Raise your hand if you require teachers attention• If you finish earlier than your peers, assist them in every way
possible to quicken the pace of the class
What are the procedures?• Class work is a regular component of each class
period. Generally it is due by the end of the class period, although it may continue the next day or be assigned as homework.
• Homework is an integral part of preparing a student for college. As such it will be assigned on a regular basis, although not every class period.
What are the procedures?• Late Work is accepted with a letter grade penalty
assessed. Any assignment not turned in within ONE WEEK of its original due date will NOT BE ACCEPTED.
• Extra Credit will NOT be an option for any student who has NOT turned in ALL OTHER ASSIGNMENTS. Extra credit is for students who have tried and need a little more practice, not for students who never tried in the first place.
• Got NP• If you have an NP, get help!• Tutoring is available afterschool, see schedules.• I will be available in the morning by 7 and during nutrition.
