Foreword
i n Quiet Corners r e f l e c t s the quiet corners in life - the little or brief moments that are unnoticed and unseen in our busy lives. Finding those quiet corners in nature, buildings, objects and people have helped me gain a
greater p e r s p e c t i v e on solitude and all that it encompasses.
This book has been created to evoke different f e e l i n g s , emotions and reflections to the reader
by linking my images with quotes by myself and others.
Solitude doesn’t come naturally to me. I chose this topic as I was inspired to learn more about it. I think solitude is needed to give time to have peace within
yourself and I hope this book helps others to to do the same in this fast paced world.
A common solitary moment which affects most people is staring into s p a c e completely oblivious as to their
surroundings. In fact you are not really l o o king at anything in particular but are m i l e s
awaywith some inner thoughts.
SEEING, HEARING, TOUCHING, SMELLING, TASTING, SPEAKING & S P I R I T U A L C O N N E C T I O N s . . .... are the senses that make us human, and yet animals share many of these senses as well. Many people may experience solitude without realising what has taken place then the moment evaporates and they are
back almost as if it never happened....
So what is SOLITUDE? Solitude is a state of mind in a private world.
This is a time when your mind is d i s c o n n e c t e d from ‘the now’ allowing each sense to express its o p i n i o n .
The dictionary (answers.com, 2011) defines solitude as: being alone, not with others or as a lonely place. The dictionary sees solitude as being apart or cut off from others - it is the state of being a l o n e .
I hope to introduce you to my personal experiences of solitude. To me solitude can be a fleeting moment or a short period of
time. I have captured my vision through landscape, portraiture &
street photography.

A c k n o w l o d g e m e n t s
Some fabulous people had a hand in getting this book to print. I’d like to thank
and a c k n o w l e d g e their super awesomeness... First
off the rank I would like to thank all the random people of Pe r th who were
innocently minding their own business when an unannounced des ign student started taking
their photos willy nilly - especially the guy who was picking his nose - that pic didn’t make the cut but was extremely hilarious.
2B for letting me drag him around Perth whilst taking photos of a medley of objects, and people;
my housemate for letting me photoshoot her in the nude & my gran for modelling; (neither subject made it to the book).
My mum for helping with the important decision making p r o c e s splus all my friends , bro & sister in law for their c o o l n e s s .Also my boyfriend for trying to make me put my computer down and r e l a x...and finally Karen & Steph for giving me great design advice and to keep achieving new heights.
Cheers, peeps... much a p p r e c i a t e d .
