First conditional
The first conditional is used to express a strong connection between the condition and outcome. To understand what we refer we will see an example.
Example:If I win the lottery, I'll buy a house.
WHAT IS?
· We use the conditional to indicate a condition and a result and therefore consists of two phrases, the main and indicating the condition.
· This type of sentence indicates what will happen if the condition occurs in the present or the future.
HOW TO FORM? YES: The first conditional is formed with the present
simple in the 'if-clause' (a phrase with 'if') and the simple future in the 'main clause' (main clause).
Example:
[If ... Simple Present +] + [will + main verb]
If I win the lottery, I'll buy a house.
If I win the lottery, I will buy a house
NEGATIVE: To make a conditional negative we can use two different structures. The first would be to deny the following verbs normally.
Example:
If I win the lottery, I would not buy a house.
If I do win the lottery, I will not buy a house.
Second Conditional
The Second Conditional is used to talk about 'impossible' situations.Example:
•If we were in London today, we would be able to go to the concert in Hyde Park.
•If I had millions dollars, I'd give a lot to charity.
•If there were no hungry people in this world, it would be a much better place.
•If everyone had clean water to drink, there would be a lot less disease
