ITINERARy... Day 1 Kathmandu Rich in artistic and cultural
heritage and full of fascinating sights, vibrant and eclectic
Kathmandu is an excellent launching point for the adventure
ahead. Early arrivals should stroll to Durbar Square, a great place to
watch the world go by and home to the Kumari Devi - considered a
living goddess. Sit in a cafe with a cup of spicy, hot chai, wander the
markets or try some Nepali cuisine. Learn about minimum-impact
trekking on a visit to the Kathmandu Environmental Education
Project (KEEP), an Intrepid Foundation-supported project that aims
to promote sustainable tourism and provide environmental and
cultural education to travellers who visit this special part of the
world. Days 2-13 Everest Base Camp Catch a morning flight
to Lukla, ready to embark on an adventure of a lifetime - trekking
to Everest Base Camp. Surrounded by the world’s most remote
and breathtaking scenery, rest overnight in local teahouses and
explore the diversity of Himalayan traditions and religion. Follow
remote mountain paths, cross glaciers, traverse valleys and climb
high passes to ascend to the foot of magnificent Mt Everest,
acclimatising to the high altitudes along the way. From Everest
Base Camp, head back down to Gorak Shep then make the tough
trek to Kala Pattar (5,545 m) for exceptional views of Everest, Lhotse
and the other jagged peaks of this awe-inspiring region. Take it
easy on the descent, calling in at Tengboche Monastery and the
Sherpa Heritage Foundation to learn about Sherpa culture. Return
to Lukla to fly back to Kathmandu. Days 14-15 Kathmandu
The flight from Lukla to the capital is short and rewarding, with
impressive views back across the Himalayan slopes. Soak up more
of Kathmandu’s unique atmosphere with a spot of shopping
among the many street markets and shops. Clothing, embroidery,
carpets and ceramics are all on offer here. Alternatively, take a
trip over the Bagmati River to the adjacent city of Patan, a maze
of temples and monasteries. A visit to Swayambhunath - also
called the ‘Monkey Temple’ after its cheeky residents - is highly
recommended. Perhaps celebrate the final night in Kathmandu
with a group dinner - a chance to reminisce and reflect on this epic
Nepalese journey and say “namaste” to new friends.

ITINERARy... Days 1-2 Kathmandu A fusion of modern and
historical, Kathmandu swarms with life. Meet monkeys while
climbing to Swayambhunath, walk around the mammoth
Bodhnath Stupa and delve into the mystical charm of Durbar
Square in the Old City. Be watching for a glimpse of the Kumari
Devi, a living goddess whose palatial home is in the heart of the
square. There are also plenty of buzzing bazaars to explore, so
leave some time for shopping! Day 3 Bhaktapur The ancient city
of Bhaktapur is a haven of intricate temples, grand palaces and
vibrant courtyards. Few cars enter this town, so wandering through
the paved streets and narrow alleyways offers a sense of what this
region was like before the modern world came knocking. Day 4
Pokhara Temples and palaces are replaced by soaring mountains
and mirror lakes. Once on the vibrant trade route between India
and Tibet, Pokhara later became a hippy hangout. These days it is
the gateway to some of Nepal’s greatest treks and offers everything
an oudoor enthusiast could want. Pick up some trekking gear, hire
a boat and take a relaxing trip out onto the lake or kick back in a
cafe and soak up the relaxed vibe. Days 5-14 Annapurna Range
Strap on hiking boots and head for the hills. Enjoy trekking through
lowland pastures and peaceful villages, past thundering waterfalls
and powerful glaciers, constantly surrounded by beautiful
landscapes. Stay overnight in basic teahouses operated by locals
and learn about the daily lives of the Nepali hill people. Witness
spectacular sunrises over the mountains and soak tired muscles in
natural hot springs along the way. While the Annapurna Sanctuary
trek can be hard, it is a great way to experience this spectacular
range without the major issues associated with high altitude - the
optional trek to the Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m) is the greatest
elevation reached. Days 15-16 Pokhara The final stretch is
downhill all the way, a welcome change from the past 10 days of
challenging trekking. Back in Pokhara, enjoy a well-earned shower
and the chance to recover, relax and reminisce about this incredible
Annapurna adventure over a final feast of delicious Nepali cuisine
and a steaming cup of chai or an ice-cold beer.
• Be swept up in the colour of unforgettable Kathmandu

opportunity to soak in a traditional mud bath. Chiang Mai offers a
range of mountain-bike options and for those who still can’t get
enough adventure, there’s rock climbing in the Mae On district.
Alternatively, learn the secrets to Thai cuisine at a cooking school,
or head to the famous Night Bazaar for a green curry or to haggle
over handicrafts. Days 10-12 Kanchanaburi/River Kwai Stop
to pay tribute to lives lost on the Death Railway or jump into a
saamlaw to explore tranquil Kanchanaburi. After getting a history
