Introduction to Movie Maker

Installation

Available on the http://windows.microsoft.com website, click on Downloads

Adding Media

Select media

You can select multiple video clips and or video

Preview Video

Audio indicator below video

Split video

Play video until you find where you want to split and click PAUSE

In the Video Tools ribbon, use the SPLIT tool to add a split where you paused the video

We now have two parts to the original video

I can use the delete key on my keyboard to remove the part of the video I don’t want to keep

Add Title

In the Home ribbon, use the Title tool to add a title slide

The default title slide is black background with white text

See the Text Tools ribbon to make formatting changes and add animation

Adjust Video Audio

Video Volume – drag to the left to mute the video audioOr, if the video volume is too low, boost the audio by dragging the video volume to the right

Add Caption

In the Home ribbon, use the Caption tool to add a caption at that point in the slide

Use the Text Tools ribbon to format text and add animation.

Publish Movie

• You have imported the original video/photo files into Movie Maker, your original files will stay the same.

• Through Movie Maker, you will be creating a Movie Maker Project File which has all the elements you’ve added, and can later edit if needed.

• When I save a Movie Maker Project, I like to add the word Project at the end of the file name to make it obvious.

• The Movie Maker Project file will publish a movie (typically an mp4) that you can share.

Publish Movie

In the Home ribbon, select Save Movie > Recommended for this project

This will save your project to the size most appropriate for the videos you imported.
