day Saudi Arabia)• He is the “guiding, human

spirit of the religion”• At age 40 began to

receive God’s words through Angel Gabriel

• It became his mission to convey God’s message

• This would be documented in the Qur’an

• Was to be the last prophet on Earth

• Received messages ‘verses’ at a time, began teaching

• These messages became engraved into Islamic Law

The 5 Pillars of Islam

• 1. Make the testimony of faith- “There is no God but God, and Muhammad is the messenger of God”

• 2. Pray five times daily, facing toward Mecca• 3. Give money to the poor• 4. Fasting during daylight hours of Ramadan, the

holy month• 5. Make a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in

lifetime, it is enough to want to go.. for some

Qur’an“Recitation”

• God referred to as “Allah”

• His final revelation, took place over a span of 23 years

• Acknowledges parts of Jewish and Christian scriptures

• Teaches about life and death, heaven and hell

-worshipping idols

-eating pork

-drinking liquor

-gambling

• Sharia

-sacred law of Islam

-Religion as law, God’s words as law
