Psalm 119 Longest Psalm as well as the longest
chapter in the Bible In Hebrew known as “Ashrei temimei
derech: “Happy are those whose way is
perfect” It is a prayer of one who delights in and
lives by the word
The Word
Psalm 119 was used in Jesus’ day as the first portion of scripture that children were taught to memorize.
An Acrostic Psalm- the Hebrew alphabet contains 22 letters. The stanzas are written with 8 verses. In the first stanza (verses 1-8) the first word of each verse begins with the first letter of their alphabet “Aleph”, The second (verses 9-16) stanza with “Beth” and so on.
The Word
In this unique acrostic format of Ps. 119 they learned:
What the word of God is. What the word dose for us and to us How we should walk in the light of the
word The benefits for knowing the Word The fruit of walking in the Truth of the
word
