James Deakin & Sons Ltd of Sheffield - London & Glasgow
A trade catalogue from perhaps around 1900 - 1910. (it could be later or even a year or
two before).
below are shown some of the marks used. Product of theirs in silver is in the V&A.
JAMES DEAKIN & SONS
Sheffield
The firm was established in 1865 by
James Deakin at Sidney Works, Matilda
Street, Sheffield. Before 1886 he was
joined in partnership by his three sons,
William Pitchford, John and Albert and
the style of the firm was changed to
James Deakin & Sons. In 1888 they
opened London offices and showrooms
at 48 Holborn Viaduct. Other branches
were opened at Glasgow and Belfast. In
1897 the firm was converted to James
Deakin & Sons Ltd.
Trade marks used: AZTEC, PURITAN,
REVLIS, SARBON, SHAW & FISHER,
SIDNEY SILVER
from elsewhere -
Beginning life as James Deakin & Co in 1868, James Deakin & Sons came into being in 1871 and existed as a Sheffield manufacturer of silver & plate until 1936. Their "JD&S" mark is easily mistaken for James Dixon & Sons, however in the absence of trademarks the "JD&S" of James Deakin & Sons is always "JD" over "&S".

)E have pleasure in submitting our latestCatalogue of English Pewter Ware. Thedesigns are reproductions of the old andunique shapes and styles of the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries, togetherwith the more modern styles of the pres
ent period, which are supreme in design, workmanship, and quality.
C English Pewter is a combination of pure metals and containsno lead, it has a bright and brilliant finish, the same consistencythroughout, and will not tarnish.
C Every article is hammered by hand and is designed and fashionedby experienced craftsmen.
C. English Pewter is not coloured or lacquered and is recommendedfor all general and domestic use.
C Pewter used for ornament only needs little cleaning, but mustbe rubbed regularly with a dry Chamois leather.
C, Pewter used as table ware becomes dull, this should be washedweekly with hot soap-water, dried with a soft cloth and rubbedwith a dry leather.
ft. In order to meet the need of those who prefer something moreornate with a bright and silvery finish, we are producing the variousdesigns in Electro-plate on Pewter.
