Camera ShotsExtreme Long Shotused as a scene-setting, establishing shot. Shows the audience what they can expect from that location. For instance if the shot showed a picture of the white house then, it can be assumed that the film will make reference to the American politics.

Mid shotContains a figure from the knees/waist up and is normally used for dialogue scenes, or to show some detail of action.

Close upA certain feature or part of the subject takes up the whole frame.Everything else is just a blur in the background. This shot magnifies the object. This shot highlights the importance of that detail, it would probably have significance and be linked later on in the film.

High angle shotA shot looking down on a character or subject often isolating them in the frame. Making them seem as a less important character or showing that they have lower status/power within their group/gang.

Low angleA shot looking up at a character/subject often making them look bigger in the frame. It can make everyone look heroic and/or dominant. This highlights their level of power and authority which they have.

Two ShotA shot of two people, framed similarly to a mid shot. Usually showing their conversation, and body language.

Over the shoulderA shot where the camera is positioned behind one subject's shoulder, usually during a conversation. It highlights the characters facial expression so that the audience get a greater understanding of the emotion of the character.

Extreme close upWould show only the mouth or eyes, with no background detail whatsoever. This is a very artificial shot, and can be used for dramatic effect. This shot highlights the importance of that detail, it would probably have significance and be linked later on in the film

Point of viewThis is shot which the view point as if the camera was actually the characters eyes. Used frequently in horror and thriller films, right before someone is killed or something bad occurs in the narrative.

A shot that depicts an entire character or object from head to foot, often shows a bit of the scenery also.
