Teak=atropicalhardwoodwithabeautifulgolden-browncolourwhenitisnew.Overtime,asnaturalteakisexposedtotheelements,itgraduallychangescolourfromthehoneycolourofnewteaktoasilver-greypatinawhichdistinguishesfinelyaged,teak.Afterawhilethissilver-greypatinadeterioratestoadark-greyandgreenishlookifitremainsuntreated.

Thesearethegeneralcharacteristicsofteak-thatitwillsilverovertime,ifexposedtosunandrain.Duetothenaturaloilcontent,teakdoesnotneedtobetreatedtowithstandtheseexposuresifyoudon’tmindthedifferenceincolour.

Dependingontheenvironment,thenaturalgreyingcanhappenoverafewweeks.Iftheenvironmentishighinmoisture,itwillweathermorequickly.

Teakhashighnaturaloilcontent,makingthewoodalmostimperishable.Asinallwoodspecies,scratchescanoccuryetwillnotimpactthedurability.Knots,cracksandvestigesofitsformerliferemaingloriouslyvisible.

CleaningandTreatment

• Dustwithasoft,dry,untreatedcloth.Adampclothcanalsobeused,butshouldbewipeddryafter.

• Forpersistentspots,gentlycleanwithasoftclothandasolutionofwaterandmilddetergent.Wipedry.

• Anyspillsmustbewipedupimmediately–donotleavethere.• Donotusecleaningproductscontainingammonia,alcoholorpetroleum.

• Avoidfurniturepolish,asovertime,itcanaccumulateandleavearesidue.

Itisadvisabletocleanthefurniturewithanapprovedteakcleanerandsubsequenttreatmentwithsoapflakes.Woodcanalsobecleanedwithaspongeorfibrebrush(neverusesteelbrushorsteelwool,itmayleavesteelpartsinthewoodsurfaceandafterwardsitmayrust).

Treatmenttokeepteak“golden”–mostlyneededifusedoutdoors.

Tokeepthegolden,warmglow,orifyouwanttheglowtoberestored,theteakwoodmustbetreatedwithateakoil,whichareintendedforoutdooruse.Treatmentcanthenberepeated1-2timesperyear.Beforeoilprocessing,cleaningthewoodisrecommended,withanapprovedteakcleaner.Itisextremelyimportanttocleanthefurniturecarefullybeforeoiltreatment,asadirtysurfacecanstarttracesoffungusandafteroilingitwillresultinblackspotsonsurface.
