UK band Gomez will play at the Trailer Boat Club as part of its Australian tour

By CAINE EDWARDS

THERE’S a buzz among Darwinmusic fans as they prepare for theanticipated arrival of a touringinternational heavyweight.

British indie rock quintetGomez will play at the TrailerBoat Club on Wednesday, Oct-ober 10, the first date of itsQuinceanera tour of Australia.

The tour comes on the back ofthe band releasing its seventhstudio album, Whatever’s on

Your Mind.The translation of quinceanera

is ‘‘fifteen-year-old’’ which is thelength of time the Southport, UK,lads have been making sweet

music together. Bassist Paul‘‘Blackie’’ Blackburn said one ofthe reasons the band loved com-ing to Australia was the loyalty ofits followers here.

‘‘We’ve been very fortunate tohave a good fan base over thereand a lot of those people havestuck with us,’’ he said.

Over the years the band mem-bers — who once shared a house— have spread to occupy oppositecorners of the world.

But with today’s technology, allthis meant was that the boyswere forced to tweak theircollaborative talents in orderto write material for Whatever’s

on Your Mind. They set up an on-

line hub on which ideas wereshared, built upon and insome cases, rejected by otherband members.

A process in which Blackburnsaid egos were invariably dented.

‘‘Getting through that processthere’s a lot of disagreement in-volved,’’ he said. But Blackburnsaid the result was a crisp, con-cise and complete 10-track longplayer the band was proud of.

Presented by NOOK EventManagement, Gomez will be sup-ported by slick Darwin alt-rockoutfit Green Stone Garden and lo-cal songwriter David Garnham.
