Liverpool Echo thorough analysis Masthead
The iconic Liver bird is a symbol of the people of Liverpool, this is why I
believe the bird is carrying a Liverpool Echo newspaper in
its beak on the masthead, insinuating it’s the people’s
paper
I would suggest the unusual use of “ECHO”
implies how the articles used in the newspaper are the
main stories throughout Liverpool that are being echoed
through word of mouth
The use of colour is most interesting, the dominant red in the
masthead most likely refers to Liverpool
F.C and is most likely a marketing ploy as football is a religion
in Liverpool
Integrated advertisements
AdWords which are spread across many sections of the website is Google’s flagship advertising product and main source of revenue. Google's total advertising revenues were USD$23 billion in 2009.
Advertisements that showcase businesses across Liverpool are common across the website and newspaper itself, such as the production of ‘Blues Brothers’ at Liverpool Empire
Headlines
On headline one you can see a highly relevant headline that is not uncommon across many city papers. The mug shot
lures the reader in as they become curious about why ‘Colin Blanchard
was locked up’
Similarly, headline two is accompanied by a striking visual and
is also locally relevant, by naming ‘Anfield’ as the place of the murder,
the average reader would be enticed as the area that is home to Liverpool
football club is well known across Liverpool
Headlines
Headline 3 meanwhile showcases the typical generic heart warming story
to make readers feel good whilst reading the inevitable stories of
murder every day
Headlines
Headline 4 most intelligently draws the reader in with its use of an ellipsis, the reader questions to themselves just exactly what the
“ex employee” has released
Headlines
Headline 5 is a perfect example of how newspapers are unbiased as one would expect that Liverpool
football club would grab the sport headlines at the time of analysis
with the appointment of new manager Kenny Dalglish
Headlines
Whilst headline 6 is most interesting as it would appear the Liverpool Echo are
trying to suggest their opinion on Kenny Dalglish as whilst fans of Liverpool FC
would suggest it is a positive headline the image seems to suggest otherwise and it perhaps suggests a sense of fragility on
Dalglish’s expression
