OmaraPortuondo(Vocals)Joiningthisexpandedline-upofCubanplayersisvocalistOmaraPortuondo,amemberoftheoriginalBuenaVistaSocialClub®,whose2008recordingGracias(WorldVillage/Montuno)wonaLatinGrammyandscoredaGrammynomination.PortuondohasbeensingingandperformingsinceshewasateenagerinCubainthe1940’sbut,asTheNewYorkTimesreviewofGraciasnoted,theyearshavedonenothingtomitigatehervocalprowess: “Her voice is rich, shapely, dynamic and still sultry.”TheLosAngelesTimesdescribedhervoiceas“a formidably potent and emotionally limber instrument,”whiletheOaklandTribunerecentlycalledGraciasoneofthebestrecordsof2008,notingthat“her 100-minute set in San Francisco [in October 2009] showed that she’s an even bigger talent onstage.”

ManuelGalbán(Guitar)ManuelGalbán,electricguitarist,pianist,organistandarranger,isaninstitutioninCubanmusic.Formanyyears,hewasthemusicaldirectoroftheseminalCubandoo-wopgroupLosZafiros.WithGalbánleading,thebandcreatedadistinctlyCubansound,aneclecticmixofdoo-wop,balladsandboleros,soulandsamba,tumbasandtwists.

In1998,NickGoldtrackeddownGalbántoplayguitaronIbrahimFerrer’sdebutalbum.Galbán’srapportwithRyCooderisstriking.Theduo’salbum“Mambo Sinuendo”wonaGrammyinFebruary2004.HealsocontributedhisuniqueguitarsoundtoCachaítoLópez’sgroundbreakingdebut“Cachaíto”andIbrahimFerrer’sGrammywinning“BuenosHermanos”.

‘Aguaje’Ramos(MD,Trombone)Hewasbornin1951inPinardelRiowherehebeganhismusicalstudiesintheNationalSchoolofArts.Hestartedplayingthetromboneinlocalgroupsuntil1979whenhemovedtoHavanaandbeganplayingwiththegreatfemalequartetLosD’Aida.Thatsameyearhetookpartinthe“Estrellas de Areito”recordings.AguajehasplayedontheWorldCircuitrecordingsoftheBuenaVistaSocialClub®andAfro-CubanAllStars,andthesoloalbumsofIbrahimFerrer,RubénGonzálezandOmaraPortuondo.HewasRubénGonzález’smusicaldirectorandhehasbeentouringextensivelysince1997withthevariousBuenaVistaSocialClub®projects.
