Quiz night: Thank you to everyone who attended our first St. Dunstan’s Quiz Night. It was lovely to see such a range of people attending from staff, parents, grandparents, friends and family. We thought the evening was a great success, bringing the school community together whilst also fundraising £375 which is brilliant. Uniform sale: The next uniform sale will be taking place after pick up on Thursday 21st March. This will be an opportunity for you to purchase summer uniform items in preparation for the children’s return to school after
the Easter holidays. All items will be 50p. If you have any good quality uniform you would like to pass on to us then please leave it in a bag by the lost property bin the school entrance the week commencing 18th March. Easter Bake off Competition: The annual St Dunstan’s Easter bake off competition will be taking place on 1st April. A flyer will be sent home next week with further details.
Welcome to a bumper edition of our school Newsletter—filled with all of the exciting experiences that the children have enjoyed over the past 2 weeks - thank you to all, the children, staff and parents for all of your support in enabling these events to take place. As we enter the season of Lent, remember the words from 1 Peter 4:10 which says “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” Have a lovely weekend!
What would you like to tell us?
‘I do not think the children are stretched. The school does not differentiate enough to cater the
more able.’ We have been working very hard to ensure we challenge the children. As you will see from our
2018 KS1 and KS2 results, our greater depth results exceed national averages.
Quote from the Parental Questionnaire
As part of our
maths learning, we
have been using our place value knowledge to count up the days we
have been at school. We celebrated 100 days of school by dressing up in
number-themed clothing and completing lots of fun activities.
On Friday 15th February, the Year 2 choir set out for a walk up to St Andrew’s Church, Northey Avenue, Cheam.
We joined up with three other schools for the Sutton ‘Big Sing!’. After weeks of practise, the children dazzled the audience with two songs sung just by us- ‘A wave went up my nose’ and ‘Under the Sea.’ We then joined with the other schools and sang four songs altogether. We included a harmony for the final song – ‘How far I’ll go’ which was one of our favourites! ‘I was a little nervous but excited at the same time. It was shocking to see so many people in front of me!’ Edward, Saturn. ‘Our friends and family came to watch us perform some really good songs! My favourite song was ‘Under the Sea’ because there were lots of harmonies.’ Mayah, Jupiter’. ‘I really enjoyed singing in front of everyone. I love singing!’ Chloe Saturn.

THE BISHOP OF SOUTHWARK’S LENT CALL 2019
“I came that they might have life and have it
abundantly”
John 10:10
We hope everyone has received
the information and sponsor form
for this year’s Lenten fund raising
activity, and that you have begun
discussing possible activities for
your children to do. We are
excited about encouraging them
to offer their time and effort to do something extra
during this important season of Lent, and look
forward to reading about your innovative ways of
raising money. Please remember that this is helping
to support charities chosen by our Bishop, and that
many of them are local to us this year.
Thank you for your support.

FCCS REMINDER: Thank you to the 45% of our families who have paid the FCCS donation. If this was something that you intended to do but have forgotten, please make your contribution as soon as possible.
Many thanks for your support.

On Thursday 7th of March we
celebrated World Book Day. The main
theme of our day was ‘Sharing
Stories’. Many of us shared stories
with our friends, teachers and children in other classes. We
took part in a variety of activities, such as designing our
own book characters, designing book tokens and writing
book reviews for our favourite books.
Older children in the school were able
to take part in a ‘Live Lesson’ relating to
the celebrations.
During this
lesson, they
were making predictions related to
the texts that were used, creating
characters and developing their
inference skills. Thank you for the amazing effort that went
into the costumes to transform our children into the book
characters that they became. Winners of the all the
competitions will be announced next week.
Miss H Toms
As part of World
Book Day on
Thursday, the
pupils of Key Stage
2 shared their ‘500
Word Story Competition’ stories with
a
member
of
another
class.
The children thoroughly enjoyed
sharing their stories while dressed as book characters. The
stories will now be judged and a winner from each class will be
announced in the next few
weeks. Please remember that if
your child would like to enter
their story into the BBC
competition, you will need to
e-mail it in for them. Details
can be found on the BBC 500 Words website.
The deadline is 7pm on Friday 8th March (today!).
Thank you to everyone who donated bags filled with second-hand clothing and shoes. We were delighted to have received so many bags. The KS2 School Councillors were extremely busy in helping to load the bags into the Salvation Army van today. As you can see from the attached photograph, the
vehicle was full of bags from St Dunstan’s and this will make such a difference to fund ongoing charity work by the Salvation Army. Thank you so much for your donations.
On Wednesday 27th February, eight KS2 children took part in the Area Heat of the KS2 Inter-School General Knowledge Quiz Championship. Our two teams competed against 9 other teams from local schools and impressed everyone with the depth
of their general knowledge. Well done to Jacob, Linnéa, Haydn, Joanna, Charlotte, Izzy, Cobi and Sam.
We are very proud of your achievements!
The School nurse will be here on Thursday 14th March from
9.00am-10.00am.
The School Nurse will be available to discuss any concerns
you may have regarding your child’s health and well-being. If you would like to speak to the School Nurse, please call
0203 458 5078 or contact the School Office.

It has been a very busy time for our Boys
Football team. Just before half term there was a nail biting Borough Cup match against All Saints Benhilton where a draw meant having to play extra time, penalties and then ‘sudden death’ penalties. With a huge sigh of relief and many cheers, the team were victorious and through to the next round. After half term, they were straight back into it. A league match against Dorchester ended in a 9:4 win to us with more great team work and skill from every area of the pitch and from every player. A few days of rest and the boys were onto the second match of the Borough Cup against Cheam Fields – another super win of 6:0 which sees them through to the semi-finals at the end of March. Most recently, the team played a challenging match against Robin Hood in which they were defeated. In every match, every member of the team played their part. Along with many celebrations at their wins, when things didn’t quite go their way, they continued to support and encourage each other. Keep up the good work boys. Thank you to all the parents, carers, siblings and classmates who continue to support the team and to Mrs Webb, the many referees we use and the staff who attend the matches with the children.
Mrs Ward
On Wednesday 27th
February, we competed in
the Sutton Hockey
Quicksticks Festival at Nonsuch High School for Girls. We
entered 2 teams; a Festival and a Tournament Team. We
received 3rd place for the Tournament Team and the
Festival Team took home The Spirit of the Game Award.
Well done to all the players who showed excellent team
work and enthusiasm.
Boys Football Update
On Wednesday 27th February, St Dunstan’s netball team played against Robin Hood Juniors. The game was both rewarding and exciting. Both teams
played with determination. The A team were losing at half time 3-0 but fought back with courage to take home a win of 3-4. The B team followed in their footsteps and winning 0-3. Excellent play! Well done girls! Mrs S Jenkins
