MEASUREMENT 3.3
Measure each line segment.Should you use inches, or feet, or yards?
Maybe you want to use centimeters, or meters.Think about which unit of measure is best.
_ ____________ ____ ___________ _____
__________ ______________________ _______
Now measure each object.
Why is it important that everyone uses the sameunit of measure?
What if your friend measured using a tiny shoe andyou used a giant shoe?
Would your measurement be the same?Is your FOOT the same as your friend’s FOOT?
About 800 years ago, a King of England decided to standardize measurement.

standard unit of measure. So the size of his FOOT is still used today and it is
often called a RULER.
Use the standard FOOT measure to find thelength of each picture.
Why are your measurements the same as others in your class?
The King’s foot was divided into 12 equal unitscalled INCHES.
