‐Teachers‐Students‐Parents‐Classrooms‐Schools

...and then about the key issue within that area

...and finally about how it may be researched with a given research method.

PLAN:

1. IntroductionIdentify and define key conceptsDon't just re‐write the question

2. Practical Links

3. Ethical Links

4. Theoretical Links

5. ConclusionWould a DIFFERENT method be better for this issue? Methodolgical pluralism (triangulation)?

Task:Read through the model answer (to a different question). Highlight key terms/concepts.

A SAMPLE INTRODUCTION

P = One method to investigate unauthorised absences from schools is through self‐completion written questionnaires.

E = Authorised absences include when students fail to attend school when they should and this can affect their overall educational achievement and result in them leaving school with poor qualifications as stated in item B.

E = There are various strengths and weaknesses of using self‐completion written questionnaires for this issue.

Feb 2217:23

A SAMPLE CONCLUSION

P = In conclusion, although self‐completion written questionnaires are useful in investigating issues of unauthorised absences, there are problems.

E = For example, they generate quantitative data and don't consider 'why' students truant from school in the first place.

E/L = Therefore, a sociologist may prefer to use multiple methods such as questionnaires and unstrucutred interviews as this means that the results can be triangulated and it would provide a deeper understanding of the issue.
