• There are over 50,000 known species of Mollusks,
• It’s body has three parts : A muscular foot for locomotion, mantle that produces the shell, and the visceral mass that contains the internal organs

• Gastropods• Bivalves• Cephalopods
Gastropods
• Commonly known as snails and slugs• Most highly diversified class in the phylum,
with 60,000 to 80,000 living snail and slug species
• Also called univalves
Bivalves
• 15,000 species• Consist of two shells attached to each other• Used their, mantle cavity to feed by trapping
suspended particles in water and for gas exchange
Cephalopods
• Meaning “Head-Feet”• Most active mollusks• Moves very fast using their arms and tentacles• Examples of these are cuttlefish, squid, and
chamber nautilus
Edible Mollusks
• Mussels• Oyster• Clam• Scallops• Snail
