JAMMU, Oct 6: With a motiveto provide apparels at low priceswith best quality to men, womenand kids, Reliance Group openedits first showroom at Jammu inJanipur area which was inauguratedby BJP State president and MLAJammu West Sat Sharma (CA).

Officials of Reliance Group, localresidents and political activists ofthe area were also present duringthe inauguration ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, SatSharma appreciated the efforts ofReliance Group and the landowner Jaidev who has providedspace for the showroom and saidthat their effort has brought amajor change by giving employ-ment to around 50 local peoplewhich in turn will benefit 50 fam-ilies as well.

He said that here variety isavailable for all segments includingmen, women and kids and that tooat a very cheap price which can beafforded by every segment of the

society and that too under a majorbrand of Reliance Group.

He stated that a major relief hasbeen provided to the locals byopening of this showroom as manyproducts are available here underone roof and now people don't haveto go to distant places for shoppingas many areas will be coveredthrough this showroom which is a

big relief for the locals of JammuWest.

He also appealed to the massesto promote the vision of PrimeMinister Narendra Modi of build-ing a clean and green nation byinvolving in cleanliness activitiesand also directed the staff ofReliance Trends to keep a strictvigil on the same by not throwingthe garbage of the showroom onroadside.

JAMMU, Oct 6: Fate of thecontesting candidates was sealed inballot boxes as elections for thefirst-ever Jammu University

Students Union (JUSU) were heldtoday on the varsity's main campus.

Counting of the votes will belater on as the Court has restrainedJU from declaring the results. Thenext date of hearing in the case isOctober 9 and till then, there will beno counting of votes while onOctober 10, JUTA elections arescheduled to be held.

The JUSU elections were con-ducted only for posts of president,vice-president and joint secretary asJU decided to postpone the elec-tions for the post of secretary fol-lowing the court's direction in

favour of an aspirant to con-test.

This was second and finalphase of the elections andthere were 12 candidates infray for the three posts.

In the first-phase, the elec-tions were held for ClassRepresentatives (CRs) andDepartment Representatives(DRs) on September 25. AnExecutive Council of 70members comprising 46 CRsand 24 DRs was constitutedand they formed the ElectoralCollege for the elections tooffice bearers of JUSU.

According to a JUspokesperson, there was 100

percent polling in the second phase

of elections, which were heldpeacefully. The ballot boxes weresealed in front of contesting candi-dates and the decision on countingof votes will be decided after thecourt decision.

JAMMU, Oct 6: As part ofSenior Citizen’s Week beingobserved at Salal Power Stationfrom October 1 to October7, aworkshop on‘Awareness aboutcommon diseasesamong senior citi-zens’ was organ-ized at Jyotipuramtoday. The work-shop was inaugu-rated by RakeshGoel, Chief Engin-eer (Civil) in thepresence of Sera-phina Lakra, Senior Manager(HR), Dr. Naveen Kumar, ACMO,Dr. Dheeraj Sharma, ACMO, Dr.P.L. Sharma, B.B.Kalyan,Manager (Law) and senior citi-zens of Village Bidda, VillageAgharballian and Reasi.

Speaking on the occasion,Goel said that information sharedby doctors of NHPC about thecommon diseases prevalentamong senior citizens and adapt-ing a life style to keep away suchdiseases need to be adhered to foroverall fitness of the participants.He further said that aim of thisworkshop during observance ofsenior citizen’s week at Salal

Power Station as to apprise theparticipants about the commondiseases like Diabetese, BloodPressure, Heart related diseasesetc. and suggesting simple tips toremain away from such disorders

as far as possible with an appropri-ate life style.

Earlier, Dr Dheeraj and Dr.Naveen apprised the participantsabout the common diseases andsuggested simple tips to live ahealthy life whereas B.B. Kalyan,Manager (Law) threw light on theappropriate life style, senior citi-zens should maintain to remain fitand happy.

JAMMU, Oct 6: Agromete-orology Section of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Scienceand Technology (SKUAST)Jammu organized field day pro-gramme on “Weather Manag-ement in Farm Operations”, heretoday.

The programme was organ-ized at Research Farm ofSKUAST Jammu, under NationalInnovation on Climate ResilientAgriculture (NICRA-AICRPAM)Project, sponsored by CRIDA(ICAR), Hyderabad, under theguidance of Prof J P Sharma,Director Research, SKUAST-J.

Dr Mahender Singh, P I of theproject, briefed about the impor-tance of the field day and weatherobservations and forecasting inrelation to various farm opera-tions during the visit toAgrometeorology Observatory.

During Field day programme,farmers also visited Integrated

Farming System Model,Mushroom Centre, Mega SeedProcessing Plant and TechnologyPark of SKUAST-J.

Dr B C Sharma, Head ofAgronomy, exhibited latest tech-nologies developed by theSKUAST-J for kharif crops.During the field visit to AICRP-Weed Management, Dr B RBazaya and Dr R Puniya demon-strated the latest weed manage-ment techniques in direct seededrice. Dr Sachin Gupta and DrVijay Khajuria explained inte-grated farming system model formarginal farmers to get maxi-mum profit. Dr Vishal Raina dis-played seed processing unit andexplained farmers about qualityseed production of differentcrops. Dr Charu Sharma, SRF,AICRPAM-NICRA presented thevote of thanks to the participants.

In this programme, farmersfrom NICRA adopted villages,viz, Sherpur and Chhapaki, par-ticipated.

Braid chopping: DIG appealspeople to cooperate with police

SRINAGAR, Oct 6: DeputyInspector General of Police,Central Kashmir, G H Bhattoday appealed to the generalpublic in particular and thefamilies of victims of braidchopping incidents to cooperatewith the police for properinvestigation into the incidents.

Briefing the media persons,DIG said that although therehave been no formal complaintsinto the braid chopping inci-dents from the victims, thepolice has filed the cases aftertaking cognizance of thereports. Giving details, he saidthat 23 cases, all from centralKashmir, have been registeredand investigation is underway

He said the police depart-ment has constituted a specialteam headed by a lady inspectorto examine the victims andinvestigate the case.

Saying the law and order sit-uations resulting from braidchopping incidents have pre-vented the Police Departmentin examining the cases, the DIGappealed the people to cooper-ate and let the police investigatethe incidents properly.

JDA seals 61 shops inday long operation

JAMMU, Oct 6: In a day longoperation, the JammuDevelopment Authority (JDA)sealed 61 shops despite toughresistance from the defaulters.

As per the details, JDA haslaunched the crackdown on thedefaulters and got the survey com-pleted wherein chronic rentdefaulters have been identifiedwho owe lakhs of rupees as out-standing rent and have also violat-ed the terms and conditions oflease deed. As a sequel to it, theVice Chairman JDARajesh KumarShavan ordered for the closure ofdefaulting establishments and theteam of khilafwarzi section headedby Tehsildar Farooq Khan andassisted by Chief KhilafwarziOfficer Narinder Singh sealedaround 59 shops at Ware House.

Majority of shops were beingmisused in illegal manner, withoutpaying any rent to the JDA. In cer-tain cases the monthly rent of Rs37 per shop fixed has not beenrevised due to the deep rootednexus and even this petty amounthas not been paid to the JDAby theshopkeepers.

In a statement, the ViceChairman said that certain shop-keepers who were supposed tovacate the shops at Nehru Marketowing to their shifting and allot-ment at Narwal Bus Stand havebeen illegally allowed to haveunauthorized possession at WareHouse. He said that some of theshopkeepers have sold the JDA

property at their own by takingcrores of rupees without the con-sent and approval of JDA. Thusthe private persons have beenallowed to transact business overJDA property without seeking anypermission or paying the requisitefee.

Tehsildar JDA Zone A, KusumChib also sealed two shops in herjurisdiction one belonging toAshok Balgotra at Grid StationJanipur and another that of PankajKumar at City CommercialComplex. The entire operationstands carried out as off-shoot ofoperation "Flash Out" to drive outillegal occupants and cleanse thepremises as part of "Swacch BharatMission".

People protest, block road in Sunderbani

RAJOURI, Oct 6: The peo-ple from Baja Bain and Kangriarea of Sunderbani today heldprotest demonstration andblocked Sunderbani-Seri Roadfor about two hours.

The villagers were protestingagainst the shifting of newly cre-ated Tehsil office from BeriPattan to some other location atSeri. This tehsil was created byadding five Panchyats fromSunderbani and two Panchyatsfrom Nowshera.

Agitated over the decision ofsome people in theAdministration following politi-

cal pressure, the people fromSunderbani area held strongprotest against the move andblocked road for more than twohours. A long traffic jam was cre-ated there. Several locals of thearea including Capt (Retd) RattanSingh, Capt (Retd) Roshan Laland Ramesh Chander addressedthe gathering.

Later, Tehsildar Sunderbani,Vijay Sharma and local SHOreached the spot and they paci-fied the agitating villagers.Tehsildar assured the agitatingpeople to take up the matter withthe Deputy Commissioner,Rajouri. The public then sus-pended agitation.

JAMMU, Oct 6: In a con-tempt petition, Division Benchof State High Court comprisingJustice Tashi Rabtsan andJustice MK Hanjura has grantedfinal four weeks time to the Statefor formulation of Water Policywith the direction that ChiefSecretary shall appear in personon next date of hearing in caseof non-compliance.

During the course of hearing,Advocates A K Sawhney andAseem Sawhney, appearing forthe petitioner, submitted thatDivision Bench had directed therespondents to frame the WaterPolicy within 2 months inFebruary 2016 and till thenmaintain status quo with regardto Gair Mumkin Khad lands."However, despite lapse of morethan one year the respondents

are have failed to comply withthe directions on one excuse orthe other", they added.

After hearing both the sides,the DB observed, "affidavit interms of order dated 25.08.2017has been filed by ChiefSecretary contending that it wasdecided in the meeting convenedon 19.09.2017 that concerneddepartments will furnish theircomments in light of discussionsheld in the meeting, within aperiod of one week positively. Itis further contended that onreceipt of comments, same willbe placed before Cabinet SubCommittee in its next meetingfor consideration".

JAMMU, Oct 6: Minister forPHE, Irrigation & Flood ControlSham Lal Chaudhary conveneda meeting of senior functionariesof the Department of I & FChere today.

Taking depleting watersources of River Chenab intoconsideration, the Ministerdirected the officers to mobilizeall the resources like draughtstations, lift irrigation schemes,tube wells and other irrigationsystems to supplement the waterdeficiency in Jammu region.

The Minister asked the con-cerned officers to spread aware-ness among the public and farm-ers regarding judicious use ofwater and appealed to the public

to use the available water amica-bly without any wastage.

Pertinently, due to dry spell,the water sources of irrigationhave depleted considerably to anunprecedented low level affect-ing drawal of water in RanbirCanal, New Pratap Canal,Ranjan Canal and PargwalCanal.

The Minister directed properdistribution of water to stabilizethe current situation. He askedthe officers to reallocate someproportion of water in distribu-taries with adequate water levelto other distributaries facingscarcity at the moment.

REASI, Oct 6: Minister ofState for Finance and Planning,Ajay Nanda today inauguratednewly constructed buildingincluding four additional classrooms of High School KotliManotrian during the day longtour of area.

The Minister was accompa-nied by XEn R&B, ZonalEducation Officer, other offi-cers, Headmaster, staff mem-bers, Ex. Sarpanches, Panchesand prominent citizens.

The additional class roomshave been completed with anestimated Rs 25.50 lakh underthe scheme RMSA.

While speaking on the occa-sion, the Minister said there is aneed to develop infrastructureequipped with all basic facilities

so that children get good qualityeducation in a planned way.

Acknowledging the role ofteachers in building a bettersociety, the Minister said that theteachers are playing great role inproviding better education to thestudents despite numerous hard-ships and problems in theschools.

JAMMU, Oct 6: TheDirector General of Police,Prisons (J&K), SK Mishrainaugurated the Institute ofCorrectional Services atMishriwalla near Jammu today.

The Institute shall providebasic training to the Jail staffand pre- promotion, refreshercourse and short-term trainingprogrammes shall also beorganized in the Institute.

Earlier, the Department did nothave its own training institutefor the staff and the subordinatestaff was trained at PTAUdhampur. The DG Prisons alsoset open the first training pro-gramme for newly promotedAssistant Superint-endents andHead Warders which will lastfor two weeks. The programmewill help the officers to meet thedemands of the department inpositions of higher responsibili-ty.

The methodology that shallbe adopted for conducting thecourse shall employ both aca-demic training as well as fieldtraining. Active pedagogic diver-sified methods such as brainstorming, roles plays, case stud-

ies, orientation talks and workplace exercises shall be appliedfor training as informed by thePrincipal of the Institute.

Speaking on the occasion theDGP Prisons, J&K emphasizedthat training plays a pivotal rolein staff development and is thekey to organizational success. Hesaid that the nature of duties ofprison staff is different comparedto the Police personnel as suchthere was a need of having atraining Institute for Jail staff to

equip them with better prisonmanagement skills and also toacquaint them with recent trendsin correctional services for effec-tive implementation of reforma-tion programmes for the inmates.

He informed that theDepartment is soon going to con-duct national level residentialtraining programmes of forPrison Officers of different statesin collaboration with BPR&D.
