PRESIDENT’S REPORT
If we took a vote, the cast and crew
of the “Old West” theatre troupe would be
The Best of the Best! For our fourth pro-
duction of this popular comedy and music
revue, three performances were held Feb.
22 and 23. Attendance just exceeded
last year’s event. This is a major joint fun
(d) raiser project for Nord-Bridge Seniors
Centre and LSCO. It has returned an average of about
$10,000 for each of us since we started this project. If
you consider that we use these funds for matching
grants, the net benefit doubles to $20,000. So we must
say thanks to all those who came from near and far to
the show and all the sponsors who donated to the cause!
Of course, without volunteers this event would not be
possible.
Our 4th Annual Miners Memorial Raffle is underway
with tickets on sale at the Centre or from Board mem-
bers. Draws will be made at the 4th Annual Miners Me-
morial Banquet event set for May 1, 2013. Thanks to all
the raffle prize donors. You can see these prizes in the
display case in our reception area. Check them out and
buy some tickets!
Our player numbers at our Friday afternoon bingos
at Nord-Bridge continue to grow! Conveners, Shirley
Cavanaugh & Frances Wallace along with their hard
working crew, are having a lot of fun. This event has
become a regular and important fund raiser for our
Friendly Centre. Thank you, for your support!
Time flies when you are having fun. It’s hard to
believe that the first year of my term as President is
coming to a close. The AGM is coming next week and I
have been nominated for election for one more year. We
have a lot of interesting projects on the go for the next
year and so I look forward to serving in some capacity.
Remember – Keep Active and Stay Connected!
Sincerely, Jim Hahn, President

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT
Greetings Members;
Some of you may be aware that Nord-Bridge Seniors was selected by Alberta Health to co-host the 2013 Grey Matters Conference, scheduled for Sept. 26 - 27 at the Lethbridge Lodge Hotel. This selection was reported in an earlier Newsletter. I would now like to update the membership on the conference. The Grey Matters Conference is the largest annual learn-ing and networking event in Alberta for organizations that pro-vide services to senior citizens. The two day event is well at-tended by administrative representatives from seniors centres like Nord-Bridge. It is also attended by other non-profit agency personnel, governing boards and councils, health care leaders, social workers, and related university and college students and faculty. Naturally, municipal and provincial officials and leaders attend and contribute to the conference agenda. Nord-Bridge made its bid to co-host the conference about a year ago, at the direction of our Board. We learned of our se-lection last September, and are proud to report this is the first time the conference has been hosted outside of Edmonton or Calgary. Our Board felt co-hosting the event would help build
relationships between our Centre and the government’s department for seniors in Edmonton. The focus of Grey Matters is to provide attendees an opportunity to network, gain knowledge, and increase awareness of issues, supports and services for aging populations. We are pleased to now announce the planning team has secured Mr. Lloyd Robertson, former host of CTV’s news program “The National” as one of the conference’s keynote speakers. An additional 3 major speakers, and some 18 – 20 break-out sessions with speakers and pre-
senters are currently at various stages of securement or finali-zation. A website providing more details on the conference is now available, and can be viewed at www.greymatters2013.ca. As the Grey Matters Conference plans continue to come together, we will keep you advised. On another topic, you are encouraged to attend this year’s Annual General Membership Meeting on Wednesday, March 6, at 9:30 am in the Multi-Purpose Hall. We will be pre-senting various reports, our 2012 Financial Statements, and will discuss 2014 membership fees. We look forward to seeing you there! Yours truly, Randy Smith

M usic By Dora, for the Mind Joggers The Germans are known for their love of music. It was unfortunate for me, to be born during the war years. The fight for survival took precedence. In the late forties my father ac-quired a radio, of which he was very proud. “Oh, My Papa” was then a well-known song. Later on I remember going with my parents to dances. It was a family affair. It was held on Tuesday afternoons. I don’t remember when the dances started or ended. When we came to Canada, music was part of our new life. We had friends who were very musical. We got together often and had a lot of fun. On my day off I went to the show and Saturday dancing. If we got there earlier it was cheaper. I walked from 9th Ave. to the train and dance hall by myself. Would you believe that? Those times have changed. Many of the immigrants met at the dance hall. That’s also where I met my husband. After moving to Magrath and raising a family there was no more danc-ing. I had many beautiful records to listen to. I now live in a small apartment in Lethbridge, where there is no room for a record player. But I am fortunate that we have cablevision in our apartments and I listen to the music channel and enjoy it a lot. It brings back many memories and I enjoy pleasant evenings with a good book. Thanks to music.

From the Desk of Val Here’s my prediction: March will come in like a lion and go out like a lamb! If I am right, we can put our winter gear away soon, and look for-ward to spring. I am happy that the days are getting longer. It’s not dark now until after 5:30 p.m. and getting better all the time.
This year March brings with it a plethora of special events and holidays. March 17th brings us St. Patrick’s Day; March 20th the First Day of Spring; Friday, March 22nd at 11:30 sharp, our “Spring Luncheon”; on March 31st the Easter Bunny arrives with civic holidays preceding him on Friday, March 29 and following him on Monday, April 1st , and that’s no joke! So get out your Easter bonnet or your
favourite spring hat and be ready for a very busy month. Spring Lunch-eon tickets are available now. Don’t be disappointed, get yours early. Seating is limited! Congratulations to the “sweetheart ladies”, winners of our Feb. 8th sign-in, free raffle. Winners of the draw were Helen Ruston, and yours truly. We both received a chocolate rose. Congratulations also to Eva Deringer, the lucky lady who signed in on Feb. 14th and won a gift certificate to the Onion Bar & Grill. Thanks to all members who renewed their 2013 memberships. Your patience while we were busy juggling renewals with all of our other initiatives was appreciated. We still have lots of calendars so if you forgot to get your FREE calendar, please stop by the front desk and get one. To date we have processed 1,044 membership renewals. If you have not yet renewed for 2013, please stop by and do so. Don’t forget to wear something green on Happy St. Paddy’s Day. Maybe it will bring you some luck and a pot o’ gold!

Nord-Bridge programming is fortunate to have highly skilled instructors lead many of our classes. I would like to acknowledge a few of them. TJ Dunn a Kinesiologist (AHS - Chinook Regional Hospital) has led two very successful programs; Fitball and Exercise with Arthritis at Nord-Bridge for the last three years. TJ brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to our members who attend his class. Lorelei Waters-Huss a fitness consultant and personal trainer with the University of Lethbridge has taken our Keep Fit program on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Lorelei has brought new innovative and motivating exercise techniques to our fitness classes. Thank you TJ and Lorelei for offering your invaluable services to our mem-bership and Nord-Bridge programming.

OUTREACH REPORT by Mary Potvin
Our Valentine’s event was a great time with the always popular and entertaining Tom Price singing and telling
comical stories well into the afternoon. Unfortunately Curt and drummer Tom Callaghan, were unable to at-
tend. However, the one man show was wonderful. In
total 92 happy attendees enjoyed a great musical presentation and yummy culinary treats. Dee William-
son of Sunrise Village took home the door prize.
Come join us on March 18th at our “Irish Fling” featuring music by “Just Ank Harmony”. Please register your attendance early!
MIND JOGGERS – Judith A. Knox We at Mind Joggers, have been writing up a storm since we came back in January. This is the month of four leaf clovers and Irish history. We would like to encourage you to write how you cele-brated March when you were a child. For those who haven’t written anything, may we suggest you begin with a journal of your daily activities. It can just be a couple of sentences of what you did. Start with the date and the temperature, so you can look back years from now and see what you did and what the weather was like. Try it. We’re sure you will enjoy it, then you can come and share it with us.
The “Mind Joggers” writing group meets weekly in the Craft Room on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. This friendly drop-in
program will offer encouragement and support so that you can start writing about your memories.
GET WELL WISHES WENT OUT TO…. Ulla Dudek, a member who has taken in a few program courses is currently in hospital; Juliette Terleski, who has been in St.Michael’s Rehab program but will be moving to a new home at the Legacy Lodge; Heather Dodderidge, who is also in St. Michael’s waiting to go into an Assisted Living facility; and Bea Crawford, one of our avid painters who suffered a stroke and is now in Calgary’s Foothills Hospital in a rehabilitation program.
CONDOLENCES WENT OUT TO…. Marjory Brown and Alice Strickland who both lost a sister; and Carol Harrold on the loss of her husband Doug and loss of brother-in-law Tom Harrold.
Outreach M. C. , Val Arkinstall, presents musical guest Tom Price with a “Happy Birthday” treat.

EVERY WEDNESDAY - ROLL & STROLL Each Wednesday, rain or snow or shine, our bus will drive you to a walking excur-sion. Weather permitting, the walk will be outside. In bad weather, we’ll go to the
Park Place Mall or Walmart to walk inside. The cost is just $3.00.
TRAVEL NOTES: February was a BLAH month but the “Friendly” travel gang enjoyed local trips to the casino, Old Favorites fundraiser at the Yates and another Mystery Trip. Everyone made a guess as to the destination. We had a hearty lunch here at the Centre then went to our mysterious destination which was the Coaldale Senior Centre to meet some new friends and enjoy a game of Bingo! Everyone had a great time.
