LAST MEETING - December 6, 2019 – Dr. Chris Peters – Better Angels Iowa
Sixty-five attended on Friday, including Naples Rotarian, Duncan Cameron and guests Katie Hoyt, guest of Scott Case, Brad Nielsen, guest of Josie Seymour and John Nelson, guest of Rev. Rich Pokora. Three new members were installed (see front page), and December birthdays were celebrated. Patrick Olsen presided over the meeting and announced that the approximate numbers for the auction are $110,000 gross and $85,000 net. The final numbers are not in and this could change by a few dollars. He thanked eve-ryone for their support and said the event was a success. Kathy Pezley asked if anyone had a Hawaiian style shirt that they were getting rid of, she would take it for a Veterans event in March. Jan Touney told of an Ugly Sweater contest for Friday, December 13 at the Junior High for her Interact Club. She wishes to carry the contest to the club also, as her students are raising money to send to the orphanage in Uganda.
Dr. Christopher Peters from Coralville, a semi-retired Cardiovascular surgeon and former political can-didate was our speaker. He is the Iowa volunteer coordinator for Better Angels. The group is a national or-ganization which seeks to reduce political polarization and promote civil dialogue. The group has a lot of col-lege age student involvement. Workshops are available to attend to learn how to enjoy politics and appreciate courteous behavior. For more information visit: BetterAngelsIowa.org.
The 4 Way Test Of the things we THINK SAY or DO
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
