Obituary
Ilynnette Waldon Ross was born to Rev. James and Dorothy Waldon in Flint, Michigan on
August 31, 1978. She was the loving and devoted wife of Matthew Ross, Jr. and, mother to Matyia Jena’ Ross.
She departed this life on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 in Hiram, GA.
Ilynnette loved the Lord and at the tender age of 5, at True Light Missionary Baptist Church (Flint, MI), she
accepted the Gospel of Christ. While maturating through her early childhood and adolescent years in Flint, she
was an active member of the youth programs at both True Light and Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Churches.
In 1996, Ilynnette graduated high school and relocated to Jackson, MS where she followed in her sisters’ footsteps,
by attending college at “Thee I Love” Jackson State University. Upon earning her Bachelor of Arts Degree in
English, she moved to Atlanta, GA to begin her stellar teaching career at Meadowcreek High School in Gwinnett
County. Throughout her career, she made teaching stops at Eagles Landing High School in Henry County and
lastly at Floyd Middle School in Cobb County. During that time, she furthered her secondary education with
course studies in English Education at Mercer University, Atlanta, GA earning certification in Gifted English
Education and obtained her Master’s Degree in Reading Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon
University, Phoenix, AZ with which she served as a Reading Specialist.
Ilynnette met the love of her life Matthew in 2008. They were joined in holy matrimony on December 5, 2009.
They became faithful members of Grace Fellowship Ministries (Tucker, GA) where she served as Minister of Music
and Worship Leader. In October of 2019, she and Matthew were elevated and ordained as Associate Youth
Pastors.
In addition, Ilynnette demonstrated her heart for international missions work by accompanying her Senior Pastor
Garry Williams on mission trips abroad to include Montego Bay, Jamaica (World Leader Summit 2015), Accra,
Ghana (East Africa-Harvest International Ministries 2015) and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Asia- Global
Leadership Summit 2018) where she, along with other Worship Leaders, joined together and led Praise and
Worship.
Ilynnette was affectionately known and loved as a songbird, a powerful soulful singer and great songwriter. In
2011, she and her sister Iris wrote and recorded a brilliant remarkable Breast Cancer Inspirational Album entitled
“The BRCA37 Project.” She also would go on to write a Praise Anthem entitled “Hallelujah Yahweh.” Always a
creative, Ilynnette was recently writing lyrics, developing melodic ideas, harmonic pallets and voicings for her first
Solo EP. She was a great inspiration to so many and will be remembered as a Warrior for years to come.
Ilynnette leaves to cherish her memory: Her husband Matthew and daughter Matyia Ross of Smyrna, GA; Her
parents Reverend James and Dorothy Waldon of Powder Springs, GA; three sisters, Ila (James Collins) of Atlanta,
GA; Iris (Dwight Banks) of Powder Springs, GA; Felicia Hayes of Oklahoma City,OK; four nephews, Johnathan
Hayes, Dwight Banks, Jr. “DJ”, Brooks and Princeton Collins; two nieces Zelmarie Hayes and Darrian Blanchard
and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, coworkers and friends.
