The boys & girls of Oxford Brookes Racing
have been getting their hands dirty once
again, with the first stages of converting our
new challenger from a CAD model, to a
finished car.
January was a busy month for the team,
with much hard work required in order to
secure our places at the 2015 Formula
Student Competitions.
Some great work by the off-track team saw
us gain a position in the pre-registration
slot at the Formula Student Hungary
competition, which we will be entering for
the first time in 2015.
We also took part in the Formula Student
Germany rules quiz, and were able to
squeeze onto the entry list with less than a
minute to spare, guaranteeing our place on
the grid in Hockenheim once again.
Finally our attendance at Formula Student
UK was confirmed, where we will be
deviating from the team’s usual car number
#92, in order to take up our 2014
competition result, with the team running
the #6 after a great performance last year.
Having shown off ISIS 14 at the Autosport
International Show in the beginning of
January, the team’s attention quickly
returned to Wheatley as ISIS 15 began
manufacture.
The team has had a very good month with
the addition of new partners to the
program, competition entries achieved and
fantastic progress in the university
workshops helping parts & moulds speed
through production line, all assisting in the
successful delivery of OBR’s brand new
racing car, ready for summer 2015.

This month Oxford Brookes Racing was very
proud to announce that Link Engine
Management Systems have begun an
engineering partnership with the team. The
partnership began with the donation of 2
Vi-PEC i88’s which will form part of the
many research projects that the powertrain
team are currently working on. We look
forward to working closely with Link in the
coming weeks and months.
The team are proud to announce that as
part of the 150th anniversary of the
university, the car will be launched on the
evening of Friday May 29th 2015 at Gipsy
Lane campus, Headington, Oxford.
There will be special guests on the evening
and the team look forward to inviting many
of our supporters, partners & Alumni to the
event. Watch this space for further details
and updates as the date draws closer.

The carbon wishbones that we designed &
manufactured last year were very
successful, and the aim for 2015 is to
expand on this learning and make all of our
suspension links out of the same material,
and testing of this is already well underway
The team are renowned as the fastest car
on Avon tyres, however for the coming
season we will be making a change, after
the Avon A45 compound stopped
production. This has involved a range of
simulations and tyre data collection
including reviewing different tyres at a test
in October.
All of the data has now been collaborated
and we are hoping to announce the tyres
we have chosen for use in 2015 in the next
newsletter issue.
ENGINE & POWERTRAIN We have decided to continue with the
570cc KTM 530 EXC engine for 2015 and
try and find even more power and reliability
than we found last year, with some
mapping work on both our own dyno and on
a rolling road. We are hoping to bridge the
gap to the 4-cylinder cars in the
acceleration event, and make our mark
once again in the Sprint & Endurance
events.
We are continuing our work into changing
the order of the gear track in the sequential
gearbox so that we are able to insert an
extra gear ratio, allowing us to get more
torque off the starting line, and hopefully
see another gain in dynamic performance.
This month NGK donated all our spark plug
for the season which has formed part of the
work we have been carrying out
on the dyno.

OBR.BROOKES.AC.UK 2014 was our first year with wings since
the early 2000’s, and we still feel that in
the current regulations aerodynamics can
add significant performance to the car
In 2015 the envelope for wings is much
smaller but we are still aiming for a 30%
Increase in CL on last year, with CFD
simulations pointing towards breaking that
target by some distance.
In order to reduce complexity and
manufacturing time, the design philosophy
was to have as many common elements as
possible. Due to this the mould
manufacture will be faster and cheaper,
and is currently on-track to be completed in
the coming days.
Trelleborg have generously donated all of
the material for their front wing
manufacture, which is currently being
machined.
We would also like to thank Oxford Brookes
Racing Alumni Martin Lloyd and current
team member Samuel Unsworth for their
donation towards the wing manufacture.
CHASSISWith only minor changes to the regulations
in the chassis department, the design
philosophy behind our carbon-aluminium
monocoque in 2014 has not changed. The
2015 car will see the team aiming to
produce another chassis under 30KG
which was achieved for the first time last
year. The team have slightly adapted some
of the designs to try and save even more
weight by using different types and
thicknesses of carbon fibre.
January saw the beginning of chassis
manufacture with the help of the
university’s partner Banbury & Bicester
College (Formerly OCVC). They allowed us
use of their Autoclave for the manufacture
of the carbon fibre skins and because of
this the chassis is currently well on its way.
