TransportOxford is a notoriously difficult city to drive & park in, with cars banned from many central streets during the day. There’s a good network of Park & Ride stations. It is well served by buses & most now take contactless payment.

There are two bike hire schemes and a car club, with the hospitals being especially well served. As cities go, it’s a friendly one for cyclists, with well-signed cycle routes.

Rail transport has improved significantly with the opening of the modern, speedy Chilterns Line. Oxford to London Marylebone now takes less than an hour. (Marylebone is 5 mins walk from Baker St.) There are also excellent, frequent coaches to London.

Exploring OxfordshireThere’s plenty to see in Oxfordshire. Several national cycle routes pass through the county, notably Route 5 connecting Reading and Holyhead. For walkers, there’s The Thames Path, The Ridgeway, and European E2 (Ireland to the Med), as well as a plethora of 50-100 mile walks & 100s of shorter ones.

During Artweeks (May), artists’ studios all across the county are open to visitors. It’s a good excuse to explore hidden places.
