Backstage Library WorksPrice Estimate for Microfilm Duplication Services
Brief Description: The Penn State University Libraries (PSUL), Digitization and Preservation Department is applying
for a National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP) continuation grant. Pricing is being provided
for the creation of duplicate negatives (2N) from master negatives (1N) that will be provided by
PSUL.
Penn State University Library
The parties below agree to the attached proposed pricing.
Other Subtotal
*Quantities, packing and shipping charges are estimates based on information we have received; invoicing will be based on actual amounts
All film created under the terms of this proposal is the property of the client and no copies will be made without written permission from the
client.
When materials are shipped or delivered to BSLW, we will require a packing list and a statement of the shipment’s value. If any items are
valued at more than $1,000 per item, we need an item-level statement of value and may need to charge a small fee for extra insurance
coverage.
Pricing Conditions and other Provisions:
BSLW will ship the original reels of microfilm separately from the duplicate copies unless instructed otherwise by the client.
Project will be placed on hold and client will be contacted immediately if agreed upon specifications cannot be met or microfilm is in danger of
being damaged.
We reserve the right to charge for special handling, after consultation with the client, should the microfilm be of significantly different quality
than the description or sample, or should the parameters of the project change.
BSLW will label each reel produced with an acid-free label using and identifying text in a standard format including newspaper title, place of
publication (State, City), date range on reel, and institution name (Penn State University Libraries). The label will be placed on the upward front-
face of flap-opening box top parallel to long edge for reading
BSLW will produce 35mm duplicate negative microfilm (2N) on non-reversing silver-gelatin non-perforated polyester-based duplicating film
from the camera master negative microfilm (1N) that will be provided by the project.
BSLW's processing procedures will be in accordance with the United States Newspaper Program (USNP) specifications, standards and
guidelines.
BSLW's processed film will be free of scratches, emulsion or base holes or tears, fingerprints, smudges, chemical residues or any other defect
that might affect the quality or legibility of the images.
Each finished reel produced at BSLW will be wound with any targets and the first image on the outer end on a chemically inert reel with the
emulsion facing in on the 2N. The film will be fastened with an acid-free button and string tie, placed in an acid- and lignin-free box, and the
appropriate label applied.
