Ed SheeranEd Sheeran is a gifted guitarist who hashoned his craft since picking up the guitarat age nine — after hearing Eric Clapton'sLayla.

Ed, 22, has made a name for himselfwith soulful folk narratives but he alsohas a talent for rapid- fire rapping whichhas earned him a string of awards andseen him tagged "the new voice of thisgeneration".

Ed started recording his own EPs at 14,left school and his home in Sussex at 16to live and work in London — with just onegig booked — and two years later wasplaying more than 300 shows a year.

His parents were integral in instillingthe young Sheeran's love of music — hegrew up listening to his dad's favourites,such as Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, VanMorrison, Stevie Wonder, the Beatles,Elton John and Clifford T. Ward.

"And that was pretty much it," he says."My dad's never been into rock music,

ever; we've never had a Queen CD in thehouse."

It was his father who also supportedhis move to London.

"He's always encouraged me to reallydo something that I love, like get a jobthat I love, not go to university but start aprofession that I really enjoyed, he reallysupported that," Ed says.

The songs that have helped Ed findmusical fame are The A Team, LegoHouse and Give Me Love.

Ed has also written songs for boy bandOne Direction.
