AT THE HELMWITH HARRY MELGES, IIIPRESIDENT, MELGES PERFORMANCE SAILBOATS
exciting, encouraging of youth, amateurs and lady sailors — this is
the next generation in sportboat racing! Designed by Reichel Pugh,
the philosophy behind the Melges 20 is to create a boat with attractive
features and provide a sophisticated sailing experience.
The impeccable Melges 24 continues to be the world standard in the
one design industry. Fast approaching the 800 mark, boats are steadily
being delivered around the globe. Just off of a successful 2007 Worlds
in Santa Cruz, we look ahead to another great championship, this time
in prestigious Porto Cervo, Sardinia, Italy. The attendance number is
expected to once again exceed 120 boats on the start line.
The Melges 17 expects more success as the regatta schedule for 2008
has expanded. This very cool boat has seen a lot of progress in the
Southeast region of the USA and as far west as Colorado. Our goal
of developing a boat for couples, all ages and genders has become
a reality with the Melges 17. More and more husbands and wives,
siblings and friends are having so much fun!
And last but certainly not least, the brand new model Melges X Boat,
MC, C, E and A Scows are the bread and butter of our company. This
is where we get our strength, ideas and inspiration because our roots
run deep in Scow country. As time has passed, they too have inherited
high-tech, modern features and are made with the finest, most
advance materials and experienced hands so they are durable, long
lasting and a sheer pleasure to own.
Let us build one for you today!
Sail fast!
The year 2007 was a monumental year
for Melges Performance Sailboats as it
was for many of our loyal and valued
customers. More than 60 years after my
grandfather first opened the doors, we
diligently continue to build the very best
in performance Scows and Sportboats
with a great deal of passion. We work equally as hard with North
Sails. The cynergy between our boats and North’s revolutionary
cutting-edge designs, materials and innovative processes create an
overall product that is very high quality. All for you to enjoy.
There are so many milestones that occurred during 2007, each one
allowing us to grow stronger as a company. Simultaneously we have
enjoyed the success of a number of competitor and class related
achievements. For example, Key West 2006 there were 8 Melges 32s
on the starting line. In 2007, participation increased to over 20 boats
and for 2008 we anticipate potentially more than 30. An active regatta
schedule and enthusiastic customer participation makes this class one
of the most progressive in the world.
The formation of Melges Europe and the addition of multiple Melges
24 champion Federico Michetti to our international Melges Team
will be bigger in 2008. Based in Milan, Italy, under Federico’s
sharp leadership, we are now able to better serve and deliver
this great boat to the European marketplace. Look forward to the
announcement of hot a Mediterranean racing circuit for 2008 too!
New projects are abound. The long-awaited Melges 20® has been
added to our distinguished family of products. This simple and
beautiful keelboat will offer so much — easy to sail and rig, fun, fast,

into the double digits. The 2008 Worlds will be in Sardinia, Porto Cervo, Italy

GROWING UP FAST. The National Championship held in Crystal Lake,
Michigan during 2007 was yet another grand milestone in the young, but
overly accomplished history of the Melges 17 Scow. Thirty teams traveled
from all over the country to compete. Ensuring longevity, the Melges 17
was welcomed by the I.L.Y.A. family and awarded class support in 2007.
And the result — an incredibly successful, Inland Championship in Pewaukee,
Wisconsin. Due to an instant rise in popularity, the 2008 regatta schedule
has expanded two-fold. Scow fever is now a national epidemic with events
scheduled from Florida, to Colorado, the Midwest and many areas in
between. No need to invent a vaccine, the world simply can’t get enough of

C SCOW  Our highly successful I-1 Mainsail has been to the beauty salon;
the broadseems have been smoothed, more depth has been added to the
