6:00pm Word, Worship & Response
Welcome and Opening Sentence
Jesus Christ is risen from the dead.
Alleluia.
He has defeated the powers of death.
Alleluia.
Jesus turns our sorrow into dancing.
Alleluia.
He has the words of eternal life.
Alleluia.
Hymn
1. There is a Redeemer,
Jesus, God’s own Son,
precious Lamb of God, Messiah,
Holy One.
Thank you, O my Father,
for giving us your Son,
and leaving your Spirit
till the work on earth is done.
2. Jesus, my Redeemer,
Name above all names,
precious Lamb of God, Messiah,
O for sinners slain.
3. When I stand in glory,
I will see his face.
and there I’ll serve my King for ever
in that holy place.

Confession
Do you want to be made well?
Lord Jesus, you raise us to new life. Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord Jesus, you forgive us our sins. Christ, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord Jesus, you feed us with the living bread. Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Act of Penitence
This act of penitence may appropriately be used at the Sunday Service in Eastertide.
The president prays over a vessel of water
God our Father,
your gift of water brings life and freshness to the earth;
in baptism it is a sign of the washing away of our sins
and the gift of life eternal.
Sanctify this water, we pray.
Renew the living spring of your life within us,
that we may be free from sin and filled with your saving health;
through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
The president and people are sprinkled.
The president concludes with this absolution
May the God of love and power
forgive us and free us from our sins,
heal and strengthen us by his Spirit,
and raise us to new life in Christ our Lord.
Amen.
The Collect
God our redeemer,
you have delivered us from the power of darkness
and brought us into the kingdom of your Son:
grant, that as by his death he has recalled us to life,
so by his continual presence in us he may raise us
to eternal joy;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Hymn
1. Peace is flowing like a river,
flowing out through you and me,
spreading out into the desert,
setting all the captives free.
Let it flow through me,
let it flow through me,
let the mighty peace of God
flow out through me,
let it flow through me,
let it flow through me,
let the mighty peace of God
flow out through me,
2. Love is flowing like a river,
flowing out through you and me,
spreading out into the desert,
setting all the captives free.
3. Joy is flowing like a river,
flowing out through you and me,
spreading out into the desert,
setting all the captives free.
4. Hope is flowing like a river,
flowing out through you and me,
spreading out into the desert,
setting all the captives free.
5. Christ brings peace to all creation,
flowing out through you and me,
love, joy, hope and true salvation,
setting all the captives free.

(Anglican Hymns Old & New – 613)
First Reading – Revelation 21.10,22–22.5
In the spirit the angel carried me away to a great, high mountain and showed me the
holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. I saw no temple in the
city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no
need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is
the Lamb. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their
glory into it. Its gates will never be shut by day – and there will be no night there.
People will bring into it the glory and the honour of the nations. But nothing unclean
will enter it, nor anyone who practises abomination or falsehood, but only those
who are written in the Lamb’s book of life. Then the angel showed me the river of
6
the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb
through the middle of the street of the city. On either side of the river is the tree of
life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month; and the leaves of the
tree are for the healing of the nations. Nothing accursed will be found there any
more. But the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will
worship him; they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And
there will be no more night; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will
be their light, and they will reign for ever and ever.
Second Reading – John 5.1-9
After this there was a festival of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now in
Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate there is a pool, called in Hebrew Beth-zatha, which has
five porticoes. In these lay many invalids - blind, lame, and paralysed. One man was
there who had been ill for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and
knew that he had been there a long time, he said to him, ‘Do you want to be made
well?’ The sick man answered him, ‘Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when
the water is stirred up; and while I am making my way, someone else steps down
ahead of me.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Stand up, take your mat and walk.’ At once the man
was made well, and he took up his mat and began to walk. Now that day was a
sabbath.
Sermon
Hymn
1. Have faith in God, my heart,
trust and be unafraid;
God will fulfil in every part
each promise he has made.
2. Have faith in God, my mind,
though oft thy light burns low;
God's mercy holds a wiser plan
than thou canst fully know.
3. Have faith in God, my soul,
his cross for ever stands;
and neither life nor death can pluck
his children from his hands.
4. Lord Jesus, make me whole;
grant me no resting place,
until I rest, heart, mind, and soul,
the captive of thy grace.

He is risen indeed. Alleluia.
Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He has given us new life and hope.
He has raised Jesus from the dead.

Alleluia. Christ is risen.
He is risen indeed. Alleluia.
Intercessions
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
The Peace
The risen Christ came and stood among his disciples and said,
‘Peace be with you.’
Then were they glad when they saw the Lord. Alleluia.
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.

Blessing
God our Father,
whose Son Jesus Christ gives the water of eternal life:
may we thirst for you,
the spring of life and source of goodness,
through him who is alive and reigns, now and for ever.
God the Father,
by whose love Christ was raised from the dead,
open to us who believe the gates of everlasting life.
Amen.
God the Son,
who in bursting from the grave has won a glorious victory,
give us joy as we share the Easter faith.
Amen.
God the Holy Spirit,
who filled the disciples with the life of the risen Lord,
empower us and fill us with Christ’s peace.
Amen.
And the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among us and remain with us always.
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.
