ADMISSION INTO A PhD IN EDUCATION BY COURSEWORK AND DISSERTATION FOR 2014/2015 ACADEMIC YEAR
The University of Dar es Salaam invites applications for admission into a PhD in Education by Coursework and Dissertation programme tenable at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Education.
The ProgrammeThe aim of the programme is to equip university-trained students and professionals alike with a scope of knowledge, skills and values that should translate into a positive and qualitative treasure upon which future generations of learners and workers will be able to draw in rendering service to the community. More particularly the goal is to enable those who matriculate to develop and demonstrate a grasp of the theoretical bases and positions upon which practice can be undertaken in the field of education.
Admission RequirementsA candidate for admission into the PhD in education degree programme of University of Dar es Salaam, shall hold the following qualifications:
a) A master’s degree in education from the University of Dar es Salaam or an equivalent Master’s degree from a recognised institution of higher learning; or
b) Candidates with an Upper Second Class Bachelor’s degree or holders of a distinction in the case of unclassified degrees may also be considered for PhD admission. Such candidates must initially register for the Master’s degree and complete at least one full year’s postgraduate training. If they demonstrate outstanding performance and obtain the authorisation of the Senate on the recommendation of the relevant College, School or Institute Board and the Senate Postgraduate Studies Committee, they may upgrade their registration to PhD candidacy.
Fees The University of Dar es Salaam fee structure shall apply.
Programme structureThe programme is designed on the basis of a four years timeframe for fulltime candidates. The time-schedule for the programme will involve a total of 21 weeks per semester. Two semesters are for coursework part while the remaining time is for research. After coursework, the candidates will sit for a comprehensive examination.
