TWO WINDOW & FOUR WINDOW VIDEO PICTURE-IN-PICTURE PROCESSORS
Flexible, high performance, picture-in-picture video processing
PIP 422 & PIP 444 Video Picture-in-Picture Processors
The Extron PIP 422 and PIP 444 are video picture-in-
picture processors for the creation and presentation of
multiple video windows on a single display. They deliver
high performance video processing, and are easy to
operate and configure. The PIP 422 and PIP 444 are
ideally suited for video-conferencing, distance learning,
usability labs, event staging, and other applications
that require the capability to simultaneously display
multiple video sources on one screen.
The PIP 422 displays two video windows. The PIP 444
is capable of combining up to four windows within
the same screen. Both products offer a high level of
flexibility, making them ideal for integration into a
variety of A/V systems. Each window has its own
dedicated input, which is fully configurable to accept
composite video, S-video, or component video sources
in NTSC 3.58, NTSC 4.43, PAL, or SECAM. Each input
also has a buffered loop-through output.
Both models feature internal video transcoding, so
that picture-in-picture video is output simultaneously
as composite video, S-video, and component video.
The output is selectable as either NTSC 3.58 or PAL.
All inputs and outputs are on BNC connectors for
easy integration into A/V system designs. The PIP 444
also includes video genlock for integration into CCTV
(closed-circuit TV) and broadcast applications.
Fully customizable picture-in-picture presentations
can be created with the PIP 422 and PIP 444.
Independent, fine-tuning controls are used for each
window to adjust size, position, contrast/brightness,
color/tint, overlay priority, and more. For quick window
configuration saving and recalling, user memory presets
are available, factory preloaded with common window
settings. Additional customization features include
image freeze control, background and window border
color selection, and window caption text labeling.
The PIP 422 and PIP 444 feature full front panel controls
for quick access to all functions. Remote configuration
and control are available via RS-232 or RS-422 with the
Extron Simple Instruction Set (SIS™). The PIP 422 and
PIP 444 are firmware upgradeable for incorporation of
new features and capabilities.

PIP 422 & PIP 444 Features
PIP 422 & PIP 444 Applications
Fully Configurable InputsEach input is configurable to accept composite video, S-video, or standard definition component video sources. For further convenience, each input includes a buffered loop-through output that allows the source to be used elsewhere in an A/V system. All connections for the PIP 422 and PIP 444 are BNCs.
Three-Way Video TranscodingThe Extron PIP 422 and PIP 444 simultaneously output picture-in-picture video as composite video, S-video, and component video. This ensures easy integration with video displays, and also allows for video recording or simultaneous distribution to multiple displays.
Picture-in-Picture Window ControlsFor full customization of picture-in-picture presentations, adjustments are available for each window including positioning, sizing, zoom, and overlay priority.
User Memory PresetsThe PIP 422 features 10 memory presets, while the PIP 444 offers 20 available memory presets. These presets allow for quick saving of configurations and recalling of size, positioning, and priority for all windows. They have been factory-loaded with common picture-in-picture window configurations.
Image Freeze ControlA picture-in-picture window can be frozen via the front panel, or RS-232 or RS-422 control. This feature enables the PIP 422 and PIP 444 to capture frames of video to display for extended periods of time.
Picture ControlsPicture adjustments are available for each window including color, tint, brightness, contrast, and detail.
Quad Standard Video DecodingThe PIP 422 and PIP 444 use a digital, four-line adaptive comb filter to decode NTSC 3.58, NTSC 4.43, PAL, and SECAM for integration into systems worldwide. Video is output as NTSC 3.58 or PAL.
Window TransitionsFor professional quality presentations, windows can be transitioned into and out of the image using a cut, dissolve, or wipe effect.
RS-232 and RS-422 ControlThrough RS-232 and RS-422, both models can be controlled and configured via the Extron Windows®-based control program, or integrated into third-party control systems using Extron Simple Instruction Set (SIS) serial commands.

Swap Mode (PIP 422 Only)A press of a button swaps, or exchanges, configuration settings (sizing, positioning, and overlay priority) between the two windows.
Customizable Background and Border ColorsAny of eight colors can be selected for the background and window borders. The colors available are white, yellow, cyan, green, magenta, red, blue, or black.
Text OverlayEach picture-in-picture window can be labeled with text of up to 16 characters, through RS-232 or RS-422 control.
Genlock (PIP 444 Only)All video outputs (NTSC and PAL) can be synchronized to an external reference signal. Genlock capabilities enable editing, and provide glitch-free transitions when used with synchronous video sources.
Upgradeable FirmwareThe PIP 422 and PIP 444 are software upgradeable through RS-232, so that new features and capabilities can be incorporated in the future.
