Polish Your Essay Writing Skills By Taking A Few Precautions
To write a best essay, you should take care of few simple things that will enhance the quality of your
paper. Mind these in your writings and practice hard and you will become a much better writer than you
already are. The most important is the grammar, vocabulary and the style of presentation of your ideas.
It is important that you do not use first or second person narratives. Always use a formal tone in
writing an academic paper. Using I and YOU creates an informal, conversational tone. Unless
your topic requires you to write in the first or second person narrative, you should avoid it.
Do not use abbreviations. An academic paper is a formal piece of writing and it should not
contain contractions like it’s, isn’t, didn’t etc.
Sometimes it is better to use one complex sentence than multiple simple sentences. To know
what kind of sentences would be better for your paper, read your article out loud and you will
know better which sentence is better for the situation.
Use apt words for your ideas. Do not beat about the bush to create a mystery. It creates a bad
impact on the reader and takes away reliability of the writer. The concreteness of an article
always creates an effect of a dependable piece. Thus use appropriate words and avoid
repetition.
It is better for formal subjects to be written in formal language. Using rhetorical language for a
serious subject puts off trust from readers. It also gives an impression of a work carelessly
written.
Do not generalize your statements, but give evidence and arguments supporting your points.
The statements seem untrustworthy as the paper does not give an impression of a well-
researched paper.
Proper references should be given against arguments. You cannot write a generalized idea and
call it a commonly trusted belief. You should look up who observed it being so and state the fact
with the researcher’s name.
Just because you read the above pointers does not mean that your further writings would be
revolutionary. It means that now you have a guideline which you can follow while practicing your skill.
The more you practice, the better you will be. This is the main difference between professional writers
and students: professionals have ample practice and their experience has made their writings better.
However, they also started as students and had to learn the art.
