• Resilience • the ability of a population to thrive long-term – if you cannot have
productive conversations with those that think differently than you, then you cannot, over the long term, sustain and thrive
• Building Displacement Resilience requires the ability to: • locate, value, and access resources
• This requires individuals and organizations to communicate across barriers (linguistic, cultural, political, etc.) in order to: • create networks that can more efficiently and effectively locate, value
and access resources
• My experience with these networks • Metrowest and PWTF
• Helping (e.g.) the Brazilian Women’s Group to organize the Brazilian Independence Day Festival
• Working with colleagues to build a Brazilian cultural nonprofit

• Displacement resilience requires: • Having a more inclusive political conversation
• A more inclusive conversation requires • Understanding the interests of the person/people/organizations with
whom you are speaking
• This conversation also requires: • Understanding the distinction: Outreach vs. Engagement
• Service providers • Organizations that can engage with constituencies at all levels
• Community
• Municipality
• State
• Regional
• Federal
