⬜ All absences are illegal, unless you bring a note from a parent, doctor, religious holiday, family funeral, or if you were in court that day.
⬜ Excuses must be returned within three days or the absence is considered illegal.
⬜ Out of school suspensions count as unexcused absences, all students are required to make-up any work missed.
⬜ Educational trips must have approval from Mr. DeLuca.⬜ Pre-arranged Absences: Medical appointments, funerals or
court appointments are the only valid legal excuses.⬜ Students who illegally miss class will receive a zero.⬜ “Good Standing” requirement necessary for summer school.⬜ After your 3rd illegal absences truancy proceedings begin.

⬜ A signed note from a parent must be presented to the main office before first period, with a phone number to verify the excuse.

⬜ Any visitor/parent to West Scranton High School will be required to wait in the main entrance lobby when coming to the school to pick up students or drop off school work, clothing, or school materials.
⬜ All visitors must have a picture ID and ring the intercom at the main doors to be assisted. There will be someone at our front desk to assist in getting students dismissed or dropped off.
⬜ NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE SCHOOL.

⬜ Teachers will start class as soon as the bell rings.
⬜ Students are allowed one late to class per quarter. At
this point one warning will be given, any late to class
thereafter a 7:20 AM detention will be assigned.

⬜ After your 3rd late to school/homeroom per quarter you will receive

⬜ Students who arrive to school after 1st period (9:16) will report to the
main office and meet with the Assistant Principal.

Dress Code ⬜ 1st Offense – Warning - Student will be required to either change into a school
uniform provided by the school or will change into a school uniform provided by his/her parent. Refusal to do either will result in an out of school suspension. Parent will be contacted.
⬜ 2nd Offense – Detention - Student will be required to either change into a school uniform provided by the school or will change into a school uniform provided by his/her parent. Refusal to do either will result in an in-school suspension and the parent will be contacted.
⬜ 3rd Offense – In-School Suspension – Work will be provided for the student and parent will be contacted.
⬜ 4th Offense – Out-of-school Suspension – Parent will be contacted and student will be sent home. The Principal will exercise discretion in dealing with unique circumstances

Electronic DevicesGUIDELINES and ALLOWANCES
Allowances:
⬜ 1. The use of an electronic device in a classroom is up to the discretion of each individual classroom teacher only.
⬜ 2. Electronic devices are only permitted for use in the cafeteria. All other areas, hallways, stairwells etc, they are not permitted and will be confiscated. This includes headphones!!
Guidelines:
⬜ The use of the CAMERA/RECORDING function on any electronic device is not permitted at any time in the school building during the school day. Disciplinary measures will be at the discretion of the school administrators for any student who violates this guideline.

Electronic Devices⬜ During school wide emergency situations students are NOT allowed to
use any electronic device unless permission is granted by the principal.
⬜ Laser pointers and attachments are not permitted in school buildings, at school-sponsored activities, and/or on buses and district vehicles under any circumstances
⬜ Students found in violation of this policy will have the electronic equipment confiscated and returned only to the student’s parent or guardian.
⬜ Should the offense occur a second time, the item will be confiscated and returned only to the student’s parent or guardian after 1 week.
⬜ Should the offense occur a third time, the item will be confiscated and returned only to the student’s parent or guardian after 1 month.
⬜ Refusal to turn over electronic devices will also result in an Out of School Suspension. 30
HALL PASSES
⬜ A universal pass is required to be in the halls at all times. No other pass will be accepted!
⬜ NO student can leave class during the first or last ten minutes of each class period.
⬜ Students found in the halls without a universal pass will be escorted back to class or to an administrator and receive detention.

Class Participation
⬜ Students must be in class to receive credit.
⬜ Grades will be affected for any illegal absence.

Textbooks⬜ Students are responsible for their textbooks throughout the school
year.
⬜ Teachers will check textbook numbers at the end of each marking period.
⬜ The textbook must be handed in at the end of the year with the correct number that was assigned to the student when they received the book.
⬜ If a student fails to hand in the correct textbook, they will not be allowed to take their final exam, and will not be allowed to take part in end of the year activities.
⬜ In order to take part in special events (semi-formal, prom etc.), the student must pay the monetary amount of the book.
⬜ Payment for summer school does not expunge the book fine.

EXAMPLES⬜ A ninth grade student has the right to take English I. It is not a
right but a privilege for this student to try out for the school’s speech & debate team.
⬜ Graduation (if you have met all the requirements) is a right, but the graduation ceremony is a privilege.
⬜ A free and appropriate education is a right while attendance at the senior prom or playing on the baseball/softball team is a privilege.
