• Continuous coumadin anticoagulation not needed

Causes of Prosthetic Valve Malfunction

• Mechanical Valves are thrombogenic & requires long-term anticoagulation

• Thrombosis causes restriction of the disk movement• Stenosis & regurgitation will occur• Infection• Wearing out• Leaks• Jamming• Sticking• Biprosthetic Degeneration
