Finding Books
• Library Catalog– Search from the subject headings– Request a book from another campus
• OhioLink – Request a book from another library in Ohio
• Worldcat– See local public and academic library
catalogs. Useful in a pinch when you may not have time to wait for book delivery
Keyword vs. Subject vs. Title
What is the difference between a keyword and a subject?
Do a search in the catalog for the same word using all three of the above limits.

• Keyword • The cataloging is looking for anything that will
match the sequence of letters that you entered (including misspellings, singular, plural – the catalog will NOT correct these things Nor will it think for you.
Subject
• Subject • The computer is looking for your sequence of
letters, but only within the Subject (about) field. It is not looking for the letters in the title, or description (keyword) boxes.
Title
• Title• The catalog will only look for your entry in the
TITLE field…

Using math to explain and, or, and not

• Databases won’t think for you.
• Wildcard characters like (?) or (*) are helpful in expanding the scope of your search.

1. On the library’s website go to FINDING ARTICLES**.
2. Click - Alphabetic listing of all available databases .
3. Then select by subject.

• Add the items to your “folder”
• Open your “folder”
• Select one, two, some, or all
• Email them to yourself.

You need to take the reader of your work as close as possible to the article that you are citing. You should not leave the reader with any doubt as to what you cited.
