Please join us at 8:00 a.m. for a dress rehearsal
And/or join us at 6:30 p.m. for the full show

Qatar, our home! The students have a variety of presentations
planned.
Qatar National Day is quickly approaching. We want to share the program for the evening and hope you will join us! Each performance will be about 5 minutes and our goal is to honor Qatar on National Day.
In addition, on display will be several student art pieces. We hope you will enjoy the creation of art the students have worked so hard on!

NO SCHOOL—National Day

NO SCHOOL—Winter Break
We have not yet been informed about
December 17. December 17 may or
may not be a national holiday.
This will impact the January date that
school resumes.
Please watch for a text message.
We will notify you as soon as we
know.
File Work
We are currently in the process of updat-
ing our files.
If your student has been a part of the MIS
community for several years, they may
have joined before certain requirements.
Now, MIS is working to ensure every stu-
dent file is accurate and up-to-date.
If we need copies of documents from you,
we will send home a sheet listing those
documents with your student.
Please help us get our files in order!
Learning Together is the Work!
Every day our teachers are improving their skills to be the best for our
students. The kindergarten teachers and Ms. Minu recently attended a
child psychology seminar together in the evening to review learner
needs, learner characteristics, art therapy as a teaching method, activi-
ties to develop critical thinking and ways to praise and motivate stu-
dents.
Thank you to the kindergarten team for their extra effort to learn and
grow!
Appointments Needed
Just a reminder to parents—please make an appointment to see a
teacher or principal.
Each day, your student(s) is our primary focus. From 7:00 a.m. until
2:00 p.m., we are with them—821 students. Please understand that
teachers have only a short break to eat their lunch and are working
with students the remainder of the time. And, principals are observing
teaching as well as working with your student(s).
Stopping a class and stopping the learning of 20+ students for an “on
demand” meeting is not an option. We say “no” and ask you to sched-
ule a time that works for teacher and you.
We do not want to waste your trip by having you wait or taking time to
come back another day. By scheduling an appointment, everyone's
time is respected.
The quickest way to schedule an appointment is to email the
teacher directly.
Emails for all staff are found on the website under Quicklinks!

Teacher Feature: Ms. Elsie
Ms. Elsie D. Bacus is a li-
censed teacher from the Philip-
pines, and she has been a part
of MIS since 2002. She gradu-
ated with a Bachelor of Arts in
Elementary Education and
earned units in her Masters of
Arts in Education. During her
years in the Philippines, she
taught both public and private
school students from KG1 to
Grade 4 and had attended several seminars and workshops in
the Philippines. She has been teaching 24 years both in the
Philippines and here in Qatar (9 years in Philippines and 15
years at MIS). Moreover, she is very happy to share 8 years of
teaching in KG2 and the rest of the fruitful years in Grade 1
here in MIS.
Thank you Ms. Elsie for your dedication to MIS, our students
and our families! Your service is very appreciated.
Student Absences
What do you do if your child needs to leave school?
Call us. Only a parent phone call can excuse a
child from school. Calls from nannies or drivers
will not be accepted by the school. We want to en-
sure that you are in control of when/if your student is
absent—not the student, nanny or driver.
Student Art Feature
Our students produce wonderful art every day, but the drawing
below from Abdullah Abdulhoque Abutaher Meah, Grade 5, is
in the spirit of Qatar National Day.
Questions?
If you have a question about anything at school, please email
any one of the principals or Dr. Sue. We are happy to assist
you.
School is a little different now than many years ago and differ-
ent than independent schools. We are happy to explain why
we do some things and take your suggestions.

Student Trip—USA
Dr. Reena will be leading the trip to the USA (Connecticut) in
April over the MIS Spring Break. If you have an interest, please
email Dr. Reena at [email protected].
For the USA trip, there is no obligation to host a student in order
to travel. We will (hopefully) be able to find host families within
our community when the time comes.
PISA
Students born in 2002 were required to take the PISA in early
November. PISA is an international, standardized test that stu-
dents around the world take in March 2018. The diagnostic test
our students took gives us valuable information to prepare them
for the actual PISA in spring.
They did well with reading being the best results. Thank you to
the students for their hard work on the morning of testing!
MIS Students Thank Our
Custodians, Cleaners and
Security
On November 23, students KG-12 came together
to thank our custodians, cleaners and security.
Each person was recognized and given a cash
gift. High School students put together a wonder-
ful video of students saying thank you.
Check out the video on our YouTube channel
which you can go to from the home page of the
website!

Looking for Volunteers: Host
Families for Exchange Students
If you would like to volunteer to host exchange students from
the USA, please reach out to our guidance counselor Ms. Tessy
You will be provided
with the details and
guidelines for serving

Author Celebration
Banners, pictures and valuable quotations from R.L Stine, Ronald Dahl and Agatha Christie were a part of the
Author Celebration. Students from grades 1 to 12 submitted approximately 30 works on different categories such as
picture, album, poem and collage. The best works are awarded a Certificate of Appreciation and displayed on the
school library display board. This is one small part of our goal to increase reading for pleasure for all students!
New National Library
With over 1 million books and resources,
the new National Library is a treasure for
Qatar.
We hope you will visit the library and get a
library card!
In order to encourage getting the
library card, we are having a contest
for students.
From December 1-January 25
The grade level with the highest percent-
age of library cards will win an additional
field trip. Students and their principal will
decide on the field trip date and location.
Students must show their library card
to their homeroom teacher in order to
be recorded for their grade level.
She will keep a tally of each grade level
and calculate the percentage.
The winning grade level will be an-
nounced in the first week of February, the
start of the new semester.
Let’s get a library card and READ!! 5
21% of MIS Earns Perfect Attendance—Quarter 1
Each quarter, we examine the attendance of our students because ATTENDANCE MATTERS! Research in educa-
tion shows that students who attend regularly earn better grades and develop intellectual abilities quicker and earli-
er. We honor these students who have attend each and every day on time and never left early.

From our School Counselor—Ms. Poonam
This month, let’s try discussing a few statements that can be used to start a conversation at home about positive behavior choices. I enjoy new tasks even when it means extra work or responsibility. I treat everyone's personal belongings in the same manner as I want my things treated. I avoid fighting, hitting, assaulting others and try to solve problems in a calm manner. I will not partake in any obscene gestures and disrespectful or foul language or actions. Harassing or purposely embarrassing other students makes them feel bad. I hate back talk. I know that without change, progress cannot be made. Even if I get a chance to lead others, I will never be bossy or hard. I encourage my joyful nature. Failures make me strong. I tend to avoid holding onto past events. Helping classmates or adults is one of the great joys in life. I feel proud when I know that my generosity has benefitted someone. I have made a positive impact on someone’s life. Before criticizing somebody, I try to imagine how I would feel if I were in his/her place. I try to look at everybody’s side of a disagreement before I make a decision. I respect my teachers, superiors or authorities. I follow a systematic way for studies and personal life style. The answer to each of these for school students is “true.” Take this quiz with your child and open up a discussion about choices.

Emphasis on Reading!
We have been asking students to do more leisure reading to improve comprehension and build vocabulary.
They are doing a fantastic job in their efforts including showing their sense of humor about reading across the
content areas. Here is 10A reading with Mr. Elliott, their mathematics teacher. Thank you, Ms. Lottie, for en-
couraging reading through your photo contest to include reading and pictures displayed on the English bulletin
board!
Water Bottles
Please send your student with a water bottle
each day. November was national environ-
mental awareness month and we are working
on ONE thing to help our environment. We
are eliminating the waste of plastic cups in
our building. Staff and students are encour-
aged to have a water bottle of their own!
Core Values
Responsibility, Integrity,
Community, Empathy
Students starting in Grade 1 show responsibil-
ity by taking care of their own materials:
books, pencils, notebooks.
