QUEST: A SHORT-SHORT STORY BY ROBERT A. BAKER, III (1963)

(former husband of Judyth Vary Baker)

This short-short story – QUEST--was written in March, 1963, by my former husband, Robert A. Baker, III, who originally had wanted to become a writer. Entering the Master’s program in geology at the University of Florida, with a B.A. degree in English, his switch to science and mathematics was due to my inspiring him to consider a career in those fields, where, in fact, he naturally excelled.

Robert A Baker, III became a noted geologist and seismologist with an expertise in computers and statistics applicable to oil exploration and geo-research, primarily for Exxon Corporation. These scientific activities engaged his talents and energy for the rest of his life. Sadly, though he had talent in writing, he wrote little after leaving New Orleans, Louisiana in early September, 1963. He typed QUEST, the short-short story below, at the University of Florida in its English department in March, 1963.
