Over one week track how you used your writing skills:
InterviewWho is the most avid reader in your team? Chris Lawrence – he mostly reads business books and other texts relating to his university course.
How will your ability to read help you as a Rugby League player this year? More than anything reading helps me unwind and relax away from football. This helps me approach training and games with a clear head.
Where do you like to read when you read for pleasure? I like to read in bed.
If the NRL had a Book Parade, which book would you bring as your favourite? One of my son’s Elmo books - we really enjoy reading these before bed each night.
If you had to dress up as your favourite childhood book character in a Book Parade, who would you dress up as? Elmo!

Todd read The Three Little Pigs before being interviewed for Rugby League Reads. He was asked to consider which players would best portray the characters in the story if he was to act out the story to the team and fans. Todd chose:

The night before a home game I usually eat pasta and try to have an early night. I do not have a lot of specific routines on game day but I always make sure that I have a good night’s sleep and eat healthy food leading up to the game.
On game day, I usually stay at home and rest and often eat left over pasta for lunch. When it is time to head to the game I get dressed in my Wests Tigers uniform and drive myself to the Stadium. I take my training bag with my boots, towel and clothes with me and I arrive in the players’ sheds two hours before the game begins.
Before the game, the team meets in the players’ sheds where we receive massages, complete stretches and the medical staff strap any injuries. To prepare myself mentally, I usually re-read the game plan carefully and I think about my role in the game.
When we run on to the field to start the game I usually feel excited and ready to play. I look up at the crowd and if our fans are cheering loudly, they really motivate me to play my best.
After 40 minutes of play, we re-enter the players’ sheds at half time. During this break, we sit down, listen
to our coach, and drink to rehydrate ourselves. After the break we return to the field for the second half where we try to secure a win and two competition points.
After the game we shower, get medical attention if needed and head home. Once I get home, I eat dinner and sometimes
I will watch the game on television if it is replayed. Otherwise I wind down and have an early night’s sleep.
