RKP 300 pendulum impact tester Safety device
Range of applicationThe RKP 450 can be used for tests to the followingstandards: ISO 148-1, ISO 14556, ASTM E23,BS131-1, ZF 15-53, ISO 11343, JIS Z 2242, GOST9454-78. DIN 50115 (withdrawn).
• Impact bending tests on metals (Charpy, Izod –conventional and instrumented).
• Impact tensile tests on metals.• Brugger tests to verify the wear-behavior of transmis‐
sion gears.• Wedge impact test to determine the strength proper‐
ties of structural adhesives.
An operational instrument comprises:• basic unit, electro-magnetic pendulum hammer
release, electrically operated pendulum lift, electricalsafety device and safety housing
• grout and heavy-duty screw anchors• steel reinforcement or concrete base• test-specific accessories such as Charpy fixture,
support, pendulum rod with hammer, tongs forCharpy specimens
• wear parts such as anvils and tups• optional accessories, e.g. PC equipment, tempera‐
ture-conditioning devices.
Safety deviceZwick pendulum impact testers in the RKP 300 /RKP 450 / PSW 750 ranges satisfy the requirements ofEG Machinery Directive 2006/42/EG and of EN ISO12100 and EN ISO 13849-1/2. This also means that thefailure of an individual safety control element will notresult in the loss of overall instrument safety.
The pendulum impact testers as a whole have beenrevised in this respect. The resulting safety device satis‐fies the requirements of national and international stand‐ards.
During design of the safety housing a primary consider‐ation was ease of operation, whether during the test, during re-equipping for different specimens or types oftest, or during maintenance and calibration. Centrallylocated controls, which (with the exception of simplevisual confirmation of the function selected) also indi‐cate operating errors, make working with thesependulum impact testers safe, simple and fast.
Front door, side door and housing recess enable:
• easy specimen insertion• fast fixture and pendulum changes• easy access for maintenance, inspection and calibra‐
tion• straightforward removal of specimen remains.
Safety device features and functions• The device is equipped with certified safety controls.
These are duplicated in accordance with standardsand monitor the pendulum impact tester independ‐ently of each other.
• The device monitors and safeguards the pendulumimpact tester according to the current operating mode(e.g. testing mode, setup mode).

• It detects operating errors and indicates these via aflashing control button.
• It enables pendulum release via a release buttonincorporated into the door handle, allowing the test tostart immediately after the safety door is closed. Thisis important for tests to ISO 148 and ASTM E23 withtemperature-conditioned specimens, as the speci‐mens must be impacted 5 seconds after removal fromthe temperature-conditioning area.
I. Basic unitsThe basic unit features mechanically stiff design andvibration-damping cast steel construction. It is leveledon a foundation using three alignment faces, groutedand anchored via four holes.

II. Installation requirements (1x required)The RKP 300, 450 and PSW 750 pendulum impacttesters require a strong, permanent floor anchorage toenable standard-compliant testing. This can beachieved in one of two ways.
• Via steel-reinforced foundation; thereinforcement of the foundation is the responsibility ofthe customer.
• By means of a pre-cast concrete base with >40xmaximum pendulum mass and steel reinforcement. The base is provided with lugs for detachable floorfastenings. The bottom face of the concrete basemust be in full contact with the ground to ensure thatthe pendulum impact tester operates correctly.
Included in delivery for both types of fastening areheavy-duty screw anchors and 75 kg of non-shrinkgrout.
