History of the Role Players Ensemble Theatre(part 1)

Founded In 1983 by citizens of Danville, CA.

We wished to establish a quality community theatre in the San Ramon Valley.

From 1983 to 1991 we occupied a storefront and produced 5 full length productions a year.

In 1991 we entered into a co-sponsorship with the town of Danville, CA, with the acquisition the historic Village Theatre on Front Street.

Since then we have produced 3 stage productions a year.

The theater group is currently on our 27th season.

Our Mission

We wish to provide proactive high quality theater productions that both entertain and educate.

Inputs With the co-sponsorship with the town of

Danville, CA we have the use of the historic Village Theatre.

We also fund our shows with: Ticket sales Local business Individual producers

Outputs Role Players Ensemble Theatre also go

out into and help our community by having workshops at their local schools.

Each year the Role Players Ensemble Theatre puts on: Three stage shows Several community school workshops.

Process Role Players Ensemble Theatre uses theater

to showcase our art in whatever shape or form needed to give our message to the audience.

It takes months of planning, rehearsing, cooperation, and money to put on one show, but when all that is complete we carry out the our mission by showing quality theatre.

This gives kids a look at the fine arts and to educate at a young, age which is also a critical part of the theater’s mission.

Outcomes The Role Players Ensemble Theatre have

been well received when we go out to schools to hold workshops and discussions.

With each show that is processed the audience leaves the show with a better understanding of what was the purpose behind the show. The discussions improve the knowledge and

appreciation for the characters, and what the meaning behind the show is. This will help the audience learn the salient views.

Foundation for Critical Thinking

1.The foundation whishes to reshape education from all grades.

1.Role Players Ensemble Theatre go out to schools to give demonstrations, and then we hold discussions about what the audience saw making the students think and to analyze what just went on their by reshaping education for all young people.

2. Critical thinking has been described as, “rigorous self-reflection and open mindedness — the keys to significant changes.”

2.When seeing a play, one of the first things a person must know is to be open minded and to see a different point of view including, but not limited to the author of the play, and the directors point of view.

3. “we develop and build practical alternatives”

3. Most classrooms consist of a “banking” didactic. Where as the student just is deposited the information, and doesn’t question what is taught. On the other hand learning from theatre still has the students watch and learn, but the Role players Ensemble Theatre have a discussion afterwards that have the students explicate different points of view, the topics in the play apparent and non apparent, also to paraphrase the content.

But What About Critical Thinking?

The Role Players Ensemble Theatre use critical thinking whenever we hold a workshop, or a performance, the discussions that are held at the conclusion of the productions are synonymous with the subject matter presented in the plays. The discussion subjects are not exclusive to one topic and sometimes include stage combat, themes of the piece or the playwright.

We ask our viewers to challenge their perceptions by thinking creatively, and to form a fair minded judgment by stepping into the shoes of another person and seeing the topic from their point of view.

Oh it couldn’t have anything to do with Critical Action… but it does! The Role Players Ensemble Theatre

actively goes out to the community or brings the community to them, putting on plays and workshops that both teach and entertain.

We believe that it is fundamental to head out to schools to have them learn and to get involved with the learning from the workshops.

In addition, we have the actors actively research, and learn about their roles they will be portraying.

You Ask… “Is There Anything I Can Do?”

Well there are a few ways you can get involved If you are feeling adventurous you can plan a

trip with a few of your friends and take a trip to San Fran. While your up there enjoying the sights maybe take a 20 minute trip over to Danville, CA and catch a show on the weekend.

If your not in the mood to travel, but have some extra money that could go to a good cause you can donate to the theatre from their website on the first slide.

Now My Connection With the Theatre!

A few years back I worked with a man named Percy. Quite a talented young actor who strived to do as much as he could, but after some time we parted ways and he moved on.

While I was researching the theatre I learned that he has been in a recent production they performed.
