SAINT JAMES CATHOLIC SCHOOL PARISH LIFE
But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you will call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” -Matthew 1:20-21 WITH ROE V. WADE, WASN’T THE COURT ONLY CONTINUING A TREND TOWARD “LIBERALIZING” ABORTION LAWS BEGUN BY THE PEOPLE AND THEIR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES? No. In the years leading up to Roe, proposals to weaken laws against abortion were introduced in most states but usually not enacted. Some states did add narrow exceptions to their laws, and a few legalized abortions for any reason, generally up to 20 weeks gestation. But then the trend reversed. New York’s legislature voted to restore legal protection to unborn children (a move blocked by the governor’s veto). And in 1972 the people of Michigan and North Dakota overwhelmingly voted to reject proposals to loosen their abortion laws. After studying public opinion against legalized abortion, demographer Judith Blake concluded that a Supreme Court decision striking down state laws would be “the only road to rapid change.” Roe created a national policy more extreme than any law of any state, and it disrupted the democratic process by which the American people had begun to deal with the conflicting claims of the abortion debate. Novena Prayers: May a change in the U.S. Supreme Court move our nation closer to the day when every human being is protected in law and welcomed in life. Our Father…, Hail Mary…, Glory Be…, (Please pray these Prayers on Friday Aug 31) Ed Cecil, Respect Life Committee

“But the people answered, “Far be it from us to forsake the LORD to serve other gods. For it was the LORD,
our God, who brought us and our ancestors up out of the land of Egypt….
Therefore we also will serve the LORD, for he is our God.” Joshua 24:16-18
What gods do we worship - greed, selfishness, comfort, appearances, consumerism, pleasure? A steward is
thankful to the God of generosity and does not become trapped in worshiping other false gods.
Please see above information about the Clarity Walk for Life.
Please consider signing up to walk and collect pledges for
this great cause. There will be sign up forms available in the
back of church after Masses the weekends of
September 2 & 9. You can also visit supportclarity.org.

Directory Updates:
• If you do not plan to have a photo taken for our new directory, please stop by and check our roster in
the parish office (or during pictures in Batcheldor Hall) to ensure the information for your family is correct.
• We have decided to add one final day on Wednesday, September 5th to accommodate those
who have not scheduled an appointment or have had to cancel. These appointments are available at the
photography link on our website (www.stjames-etown.org) under CURRENT PROJECTS or by calling the
directory company (toll free @ 866-557-2253). Due to many cancellations on previous days, photographers have had a significant amount of downtime. In order to
maximize their use of time, if appointments are not fully booked for September 5th, the directory company
will cancel and will not send photographers. As a courtesy to others, please call the directory company to
cancel or to change an appointment.
• Submitted Photos: Please be sure to submit payments and release forms before August 31. Without
these, we will not be able to use your submission.
• The names you provide the photographer will appear below your picture in the directory.
The Changes you submit to the church roster will appear in the back of the directory.
Thank you to everyone for your part in making this directory a success for our parish.
