Dear Parishioners, During the month of November, we remember those who have gone before us and who are now in
Heaven and in Purgatory. We are mindful of them, for the work and example they provided for us,
and we reexamine the path we are on in our own journeys to Heaven. During November we have a
Book of the Deceased located in our Sacred Heart Chapel area to allow us to write in any names of
loved ones we would like for us as a parish community to include in our prayers, especially during
the month of November. We are blessed to have a Scroll of the Dead this year, which was penned by Mr. Jamie Herras of
Columbus, Georgia. In addition, Elaine Schmitt and Sue Sinksen have arranged a beautiful
memorial for Fr. John Cuddy, who passed away, as you remember, early this year. In your daily
prayers, please remember these people and all the people of our parish, and may the Souls of the
Faithful Departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. God bless you and have a wonderful week! Fr. Winchel

SJS Fifth Grade Student Wins Trip to the Galapagos Islands
Stephen Leach, a fifth grade student at SJS and member of the Quiz Bowl team, loves Jeopardy! and Alex Trebek. When the
popular game show announced a National Geographic contest where the winner and one guest would receive an all-expenses
paid trip to the Galapagos Islands, he knew he had to enter. For two weeks Stephen faithfully watched the show and entered
the secret word. After several months of anxiously waiting, he received a package in the mail stating that he and his mom,
Marie Sale (who was the “real” winner because contestants must be 18 years or older), won the grand prize!
On October 6, Stephen and Marie began their trek to Ecuador where they would eventually board the National Geographic
Endeavor II Ship, their home for the next 10 days! Their adventure
included zodiac rides, kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, and even a little
classroom Jeopardy! Some of the amazing wildlife they were able to
spot included baby sea lions, marine iguanas, wave albatross, blue-
footed boobies, and of course, the giant tortoises the Galapagos Is-
lands are known for!
Stephen and Marie, not only brought home a treasure trove of photos
and a lifetime of memories, they also brought home a group photo of
this year’s SJS Quiz Bowl team signed by Alex Trebek for each member
of the team! For more information about St. Joseph’s Catholic School,
