JAMMU, Oct 3: Morerecoveries were made from thetwo mobile snatchers, who werearrested by Digiana police fewdays back.

As per police sources,Digiana police arrested twomobile snatchers identified asAjay Kumar, son of JoginderKumar of Hansel Chowk,Bishnah and Shammy Kumar,son of Ram Bitta of Rehal,Bishnah, few days back.

A case under FIR number252/15 under Section 382 RPCwas registered against them atGandhi Nagar police station andinvestigation started.

During sustained question-ing, more recoveries were madeon the disclosures of theseaccused persons.

Police recovered a Passion

Pro motorcycle, which wasstolen from Bus Stand area,Yamaha FZ motorcycle, whichwas stolen from Bahu Plaza,Trikuta Nagar and I-Pad, whichthey had snatched from a personin Digiana area.

The accused further dis-closed that the motorcyclewhich was earlier recoveredfrom them was stolen from BabaSidh Goria, Mandir SwankhaMorh, Samba.

Further investigation into thecase is going on.

RAMBAN, Oct 3: Batotepolice arrested a truck driver andrecovered 1.25 quintals of poppystraw (bhukki) from his possession.

As per police sources, on aspecific information, policeteam from Batote police stationintercepted a truck bearing reg-istration number PB07D-5565 atLadhwal Morh.

During checking, 7 bagscontaining poppy straw weigh-ing around 1.25 quintals werefound concealed in the truck.

Accordingly, the truck drivernamely Rajvinder Singh aliasJinder, son of Darshan Singh, aresident of Kapurthala, Punjabwas arrested on the spot. Thetruck alongwith poppy strawwas also seized on the spot.

A case under relevantSections has been registered atpolice station Batote and inves-tigation started.

Police team led by SHOBatote police station InspectorArun Kotwal made the arrestunder the supervision of SSPRamban Randeep Kumar.

Lightning leads topanic in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Oct 3: Panicgripped Srinagar after thunder-storm and lightning damagedelectronic and telecommunica-tion equipment in Police ControlRoom (PCR) Srinagar.

The lightning and thundersstuck the city at around 7:23 PMtriggering panic and fear amongthe residents. The lightning fol-lowed by deafening explosionsled to panic with people tryingto take cover for safety.

Due to thunders, the electric-ity in Lal Chowk and Batamalooand several areas of city centrewas snapped.

The Director ofMeteorological DepartmentSonam Lotus told Excelsior thatthe thunderstorm was "usual"

and urged people not to panic. "Itwas not a cloudburst but a thun-derstorm which stuck in the mid-dle of City and that is why peo-ple felt its intensity more. Therewas no damage and people neednot to panic. We were not pre-dicting this thunderstorm in theday. But then couple of hoursbefore the thunderstorm, therewas its prediction," he said.

Following the thunderstorm,light rain lashed parts of city andcontinued for nearly an hour.

Reports said that the com-puters and other electronicequipments at Police ControlRoom (PCR) Srinagar weredamaged due to lightning. Theysaid the hotline and other wire-less communication systemwere also affected as the anten-nas attracted the lightning.

JAMMU, Oct 3: ShrimatiShanti Gupta Centre for WomenStudies (CWS), MIER organ-ized an extension lecture on thetopic "Developing Self Esteemamong Young Women."

The resource person was DrAarti Bakshi, HoD, Departmentof Psychology, University of

Jammu, Jammu. Dr Renu Gupta,Principal and Director, MIERpresided over the function.HoDs of various Departments ofthe College besides the staff andstudents of the BEd and MEdwere present on the occasion.

At the commencement of theprogramme, a wall magazinebased on the topic "Women andSelf-esteem" was inauguratedby the resource person.

In her welcome address, DrRenu Gupta said, "There is acorrelation between self-esteemand achievement of a student ora person. Self-esteem and relat-ed emotions instill a sense ofsuccess and the confidencewhen a set goal is accomplished.Stereotype roles in the societyalso have impact on the self-esteem of an individual.Therefore, there is need to

improve the self-esteem ofyoung women".

In her address, Dr Bakshitold the audience that self-esteem reflects a person's over-all emotional evaluation of hisor her own worth. It is a judg-ment of oneself as well as anattitude toward the self. Self-esteem encompasses belief as

well as emotions.She explained theaudience 12 stepsto enhance one'sself-esteem andurged the youngaudience to incor-porate that in theirlife for high self-esteem and alwaysfeel good aboutthem.

The lecture wasfollowed by aninteractive sessionin which the audi-

ence participated enthusiastical-ly and posed their queries.

CAPD to provide 35 kgration per family: Pawan

UDHAMPUR, Oct 3: TheMinister of State for Financeand Information Technology,Pawan Kumar Gupta today saidthat the people of Udhampurdistrict will now be provided35Kg ration per family fromexisting 25 kg/ family from themonth of October, 2015.

Talking to media persons, hesaid that Government is com-mitted to provide corruptionfree, transparent and good quali-ty of supply of ration to the peo-ple. He instructed AD CA&PDJoginder Singh, to provide goodquality and authorized amountof ration to the people of the dis-trict and keep a regular check onthe quality and distribution ofthe ration. He said that strictaction would be initiated againstthe defaulters if any for stream-lining the ration distribution inthe area.

Minister assured thatGovernment is committed forthe opening of 200 new rationdepot in the area so that people

of the area would get rationwithout any problem. He alsoinformed that a new amusementpark would soon be developedin the town for which the landhas been already identified.Healso added that the Govt hadalready initiated a lot of devel-opment works for the cleanli-ness of Devika and constructionof new sports grounds in theUdhampur.

Later, MoS met deputationfrom Jib area and listened totheir problems regarding watersupply and electricity. Heassured all possible help fromGovt side. He instructed X-EnPHE to redress the water relatedproblem of the people soon. Hecalled upon the people to getthemselves aware about the dif-ferent schemes of variousdepartments and avail the bene-fits of these schemes for thesocio economic upliftment.

DDC reviews Navratrafestival arrangements

REASI, Oct 3: DistrictDevelopment Commissioner,Reasi, Sushma Chuhan todayconvened a meeting of seniorofficers and members ofNavratra Festival CelebrationCommittee to discuss arrange-ments for ensuing Navratra fes-tival at Katra.

Discussing the arrangementsto be made by TourismDepartment and Shri MataVaishno Devi Shrine Board forthe event, the DDC was apprisedof the events to be organized atKatra during the Navratra festi-val commencing from 13thOctober. DDC said that lakhs ofdevotees are likely to pay theirobeisance during Navratra andall out efforts will be made forthe safe, peaceful and comfort-able yatra of pilgrims and con-duct of Navratra festival activi-ties.

The meeting had a discus-sion on security, illumination oftown, construction of roads and

drains, arrangements for emer-gency and fire services, accom-modation of guests and sanitarymeasures etc.

She directed PWD to ensureblacktopping of road and alsocomplete other necessary repairworks well before the Navratrafestival. She also directed thePHE and Power Departments toensure proper supply in the townas well as at all the venueswhere celebrations will be held.

Govt to take stern action againstculprits of domestic violence: Asiea

SRINAGAR, Oct 3:Minister of State for Health andSocial Welfare, Asiea Naqashtoday said that the Burn CareWard at SMHS Hospital wouldbe upgraded at an estimated costof Rs 4. 45 crore.

The Minister said this whilevisiting SMHS Hospital. Sheinspected various wards at theHospital including Burn Ward,Emergency Surgical andDisaster Multi Causality Wardand took stock of the facilitiesand other treatment being pro-vided to the patients there.

The Minister directed thehospital administration to ensureevery possible help to thepatients. She also stressed onmaintaining cleanliness in andaround the hospital.

While inspecting the BurnWard, the Minister wasinformed that 22 patients includ-ing 12 patients in Surgical Wardare under treatment.

Responding to the demandsput forth by the people atHospital, Ms Asiea said that the

sanitary units at an estimatedcost of Rs 6 lakh will be con-structed soon.

Interacting with mediaper-sons on the sidelines of the visit,the Minister said that the domes-tic violence is heart wrenchingand Government is serious inthis regard. She said that oneStaff Crises Centre will beestablished in Srinagar soonwith the helpline number 181.She said that the Centre wouldhelp women folk in distress byprotection care assistance,health facilities and legal assis-tance.

The Minister said that peopleinvolved in domestic violencewould not be tolerated andGovernment will take strongaction against offenders andpunishment according to lawwill be given to them.

JAMMU, Oct 3: Provincialpresident of Women Wing ofNational Conference, SatwantKaur Dogra, today charged theBJP leadership with failure onall fronts and accused the partyof misleading Jammu peoplewith false statements for divert-ing attention of people from thereal issues of public interests.

She was addressing a gath-ering of women workers inMohalla Dalpathian, Ward No 5Jammu. The meeting was organ-ised by provincial vice presidentof Women Wing, Manveer Kaur.

Speaking on the occasion,Satwant Kaur alleged that thecommon-man was bearing thebrunt of the BJP-PDP CoalitionGovernment which had broughtdevelopmental works through-out the State to a grinding halt."Employees are without theirsalaries, people are sufferingfrom the lack of supply ofpower, drinking water, ration,old age pensions, MNREGApayments and there is no sign ofrehabilitation of firing victimsand the reconstruction of public

SRINAGAR, Oct 3: Twopersons were killed and eightothers injured in different roadaccidents across the Valley.

A police spokesman said atri-cycle met with an accidentnear Lasjan in Nowgam area ofcity here resulting in death ofcyclist identified as MohammadIqbal Sheikh who was a residentof West Bengal. "The body ofdeceased has been taken intocustody for medico-legal for-malities," he said. In anotheraccident, the spokesman said, aperson identified as MuzaffarAhmad Malik who was injuredin a road accident on October1st at M A road here succumbedto his injuries at SKIMS Soura."The body was handed over tolegal heirs for last rites aftercompleting legal formalities,"the spokesman said, adding thata case has been registered in thisregard.

The police spokesman saida Tavera Vehicle JK01W-5251and a Scooty numberE3N6E0053382 collided atRayil Gund in Ganderbal dis-trict, resulting in injuries toScooty rider. The injured wasshifted to hospital for treat-ment.

The spokesman said a busbearing registration numberJK01Y-0546 and Alto K10 carmet with an accident atDongimarg along Mughal Roadin Herpora area of southKashmir's Shopian district,resulting in injuries to four per-sons identified as MohammadYaqoob Awan, MohammadShafi Bajad, Miss Zahida andMiss Nusrat. All the injuredhave been shifted to the hospi-tal for treatment.

He said a motorcycle onway from Bonigam toChowgam Skidded off the roadat Nawa Link Road inQazigund area of Kulgam dis-trict, resulting in injuries to twopersons identified asMohammad Jabbar andTawqeer Ahmad of Bihar. Boththe injured have been shifted tothe hospital for treatment.

The police spokesman fur-ther said an unknownMotorcyclist on way fromSagipora to Pohrupath hit andinjured a pedestrian namelyJaved Ahmad Sheikh inHandwara are area of Kupwaradistrict. "The injured was shift-ed to the hospital for treatment.Police have registered a case inthis regard," the spokesmanadded.

UDHAMPUR, Oct 3: Tomark the birth anniversary ofMahatma Gandhi, a one day vol-untary blood donation camp wasorganized by the HealthDepartment Udhampur in collab-oration with Indian Red CrossSociety, and CRPF 137 Bn &187Bn. The blood donation campwas held in the premises of theDistrict Hospital Udhampur .

District DevelopmentCommissioner, Udhampur, Dr.Shahid Iqbal Choudhary was thechief guest on the occasion.

As many as 62 units weredonated by the officers & jawansof CRPF and volunteers duringthe blood donation camp.

The DDC complimented theinitiative taken by the HealthDepartment and Indian RedCross Society for the noble causeof saving ones lives. He alsoappreciated the civil society andofficers and jawans of 137 &187Bns CRPF for participating inblood donation camp. He saidthat saving one's life is thebiggest noble cause and calledupon the masses to come forwardvoluntarily to join the voluntaryBlood Donation.

Dr. Shahid said that it is theresponsibility of every individualto create a healthy environmentby keeping their surroundingsneat and clean and supported therole of administration in makingthe swachh Udhampur city.

He said that for making theSwachh Bharat Abhiyan success-

ful, administration has alreadylaunched many awareness pro-gramme at Panchayat and blocklevel for generating mass aware-ness among the general publicregarding the importance ofcleanliness.

term of the Committee has cometo end in the month ofSeptember and he had urged theElection authority to notify thedates for fresh elections.However the election authorityshowed its inability of conduct-ing the elections and urged theCommittee to appoint the newCommissioner for the same. Sothe Committee has decided todefer the elections for the timebeing and it was decided that thepresent Committee should func-tion till the ongoing develop-mental works are completed.

JAMMU, Oct 3: The Jammuand Kashmir Sharnarthi ActionCommittee (JKSAC) has urgedupon the Government to settlethe pending issue of displacedpersons (DPs) from PakOccupied Kashmir.

In a meeting of the SACheld here today under the chair-manship of Gurdev Singh, pres-ident of the body, the membersexpressed their dismay over thecallous attitude of the Govt asthe issue is being tossed fromone table to the other to delay itfurther. They reiterated thatrevised package of Rs 30 lakhmay be calculated on account ofcompensation for each DP fam-ily of 1947 from POK for theirleft out properties along withreservation for their wards inthe State and Central Govt jobs/technical institutions.
