The mission of Save Venice Boston is the restoration and preservation of the cul-tural heritage, especially the art and architecture, of the city of Venice. There isno other center with such a concentration of masterpieces nor one in which somany great works of art are under such serious threat. To do all that one can topreserve Venice’s treasures is both a pleasure and an obligation.

Boston University Professor of HistoryJames Johnson will present a fresh viewinto one of Venice’s most colorful and con-troversial native sons, Giacomo Casanova.His lecture, Casanova’s Seductions: Ambition, Love and Letters, is illustratedwith sumptuous images drawn fromBoston’s Museum of Fine Arts’ upcomingexhibition on this celebrated adventurer.

Scott Jarrett, Director of Music at BostonUniversity’s Marsh Chapel and resident conductor of Boston’s Handel & HaydnSociety Chorus, will lead an early-musicensemble of singers and instrumentalists,drawn largely from H&H, in a performance ofMonteverdi’s Masterworks. The programfeatures sacred and secular music by the com-poser, including excerpts from his monumen-tal Vespri della Beata Virgine and motetsfrom his Selva Morale e Spirituale.

Caroline Bruzelius, Anne Murnick CoganProfessor of Art, Art History, and VisualStudies at Duke University, will offer a lecture about her innovative project, Visual-izing Venice, an international collaborationwith Venice and Padua Universities that in-tegrates 3D modeling and mapping to createa visual history of Venetian developmentover the centuries.
