SUGGESTED TIMELINE for Nomination and Selection Process for
2017 SCHOOL VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR and
2017 PTA CITYWIDE VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
The PTA President and Volunteer in Education Coordinator(s) at each school
should work with the building administrator to select your school’s 2017 School
Volunteer of the Year (VOY). Nomination forms should be distributed
electronically to administrators, teachers, PTA board members and parents as soon
as possible in early January. A school selection committee should then review the
nominations to select your school’s 2017 School Volunteer of the Year. Possible
members of the committee may include the PTA president, principal/assistant
principal, the previous year’s School Volunteer of the Year, Teacher of the Year,
Volunteer in Education Coordinator(s) and a student representative. Below is a
suggested timeline for selecting your school’s 2017 School Volunteer of the Year
and completing the 2017 PTA Citywide Volunteer of the Year Nomination
process.
January 9 Establish a committee to review nominations to select your
school’s 2017 Volunteer of the Year. Distribute an electronic copy
of the 2017 School Volunteer of the Year Nomination Form to
administrators, teachers/staff and PTA/PTSA members. Be sure to
include the email of the committee designee (VIE Coordinator, in
most cases) to return the form to no later than Monday, Jan. 30 (a
Staff Day for schools).
January 31 Compile completed 2017 School Volunteer of the Year
Nomination forms and make copies for each member of the
committee to review.
February 1 – 7 Review nominations with the school selection committee to select
the school’s 2017 School Volunteer of the Year.
Feb. 8 – 14 Inform the 2017 School Volunteer of the Year of his/her selection
at a special event or meeting where the honor can be celebrated
with the school community. Please submit your selection’s contact
information to Betsy Scales, office associate in the Office of
Community Engagement, via email to
[email protected] by the end of the week.
Feb. 14 – 23 Prepare the 2017 PTA Citywide Volunteer of the Year Nomination
Packet, requesting the needed letters of recommendation be
submitted by Tuesday, Feb. 21.
*Please note all important requirements of the nomination
packet in order for your school VOY to be considered for citywide
recognition.
February 24 Submit your school’s COMPLETE 2017 PTA Citywide Volunteer
of the Year Nomination Packet to Betsy Scales in the Office of
Community Engagement. This includes two (2) high resolution
“action” photos with your volunteer at the school involved with
students and three (3) scanned Letters of Support. All packets will
then be forwarded to Alice Catherman, President of the Virginia
Beach Council of PTAs, at Kempsville High School where the
Council will review and select a citywide winner from the
elementary and secondary levels.
April 17 Encourage your school’s Volunteer of the Year (and guest) to
attend the 2017 Community Celebration held at Kellam High
School Thursday, April 27, 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. Please remind
him/her to RSVP to Betsy Scales in the Office of Community
Engagement at 263-1337.
Thank you for helping to make this a special recognition for your school’s most
valuable volunteer for the 2016 – 2017 school year. We look forward to a
wonderful Community Celebration!
