The Scottish Country Sports Tourism Group (SCSTG)
The SCSTG brings together the private and public sectors to increase the under-
standing of the benefits country sports bring to the economy and the environment
and to further the developments required for a successful tourism business. The
board members include: Association of Deer Management Groups (ADMG), Fisher-
ies Management Scotland (FMS), British Association for Shooting and Conservation
(BASC), Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), Scottish Enterprise (SE), Scottish
Gamekeepers Association (SGA), Scottish Land and Estates (SLE), Scottish Natural
Heritage (SNH) and Visit Scotland (VS).
The SCSTG works to ensure that Scotland’s sport is promoted, including to foreign
markets, that information for the sporting client is readily available and that gov-
ernment bodies and a wide audience see country sports as a positive contributor to
Scotland’s economy.
SCSTG works in line with The Scottish Tourism Alliance (STA) who are charged by
the Scottish Government to provide the tourism industry with a vision and strategy
to grow the Scottish Tourism Economy by £1bn by 2020. The SCSTG has represen-
tation on the ‘Outdoor Tourism’ group of the STA. This ensures that country sports
are built into the Government’s economic assessment of tourism as a recognised
contributor to the Scottish economy. In 2014 SNH and SE funded research into
country sports tourism enabling us to develop a strategy document ‘Game for
Growth’ based on that research and launched at the Scottish Parliament in Decem-
ber 2016.
